1. Bolsheviks were the Russian revolutionaries
In other words, he's referring to the fact that the right wing calls him a "communist".

10. The looney toon right in the 50's and 60's
saw everything liberal as a bolshevik plot - as a scheme to slip COMMUNISM in under the door. McCarthy (Joe not Gene) made a career out of alleged bolshevik plots, as did Nixon. The UN was a bolshevik plot, fluoride was a bolshevik plot, civil rights was a huge bolshevik plot, and most certainly the entire New Deal was one big communist trick.

plus ca change...

The way they grabbed power should be a warning from history.

12. Bolshevik
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolshevik

The Bolsheviks, founded by Vladimir Lenin, were an organization of professional revolutionaries under a democratic internal hierarchy governed by the principle of democratic centralism, who considered themselves as the vanguard of the revolutionary working class of Russia. Their beliefs and practices were often referred to as Bolshevism. Bolshevik revolutionary leader Leon Trotsky frequently used the terms "Bolshevism" and "Bolshevist" after his exile from the Soviet Union to differentiate between what he saw as true Leninism and the regime within the state and the party which arose under Stalin.

I think it also implies a system that believes that the working class cannot establish socialism by themselves, but that an elite cadre of intelligentsia are required to develop the socialist conscience of the proletariat.

13. after the Russian Monarchy collapsed revolutionary and democratic socialist
parties combined to form an interim government in Russia.

When they agreed to continue participation in WWI (it was almost over and they were worried that if they did not stay in that they would lose huge amounts of territory) they lost support of the Russian masses and the government collapsed.

The Bolsheviks ( a small faction of the Communist Party but ironically name "the majority group") sent armed guards to key government facilities and took over the government basically without a fight.

They then signed an armistice with the Germans and installed one party Communist rule in Russia.

too obviously!.. i mean, the president had clearly more knowledge on every single item than they seemed to have. They tried to "cofront" him with questions where maybe they thought he wasn't going to know the answer and the president just schooled them.

I am very proud of him. very proud i voted for him.

Monarchists think that everyone that isn't a Monarchist

Wrong, wrong and then some wrong.. Most modern Monarhist accept that some are against the Moharcy, but as long as Monarcy have the support of most of an population, or are not sqrewing to mutch up it tend to be okay with it...

But our Royal Familiy was not wisiting USSR on state wisit, mostly becouse our first modern King HAAKON 7 was in family with the russian tsar, and therefore made the promise that no royal familiy member should wisit Soviet as long as the comunist was in charge.. I then guess he dosen't belived them to be there so long as they did... Thing first time they wisited Russia was in 1994 or something like that - first monarch from our kindom to wisit Russia for more than 500 year...

30. The ones in the White Army certainly did.
When there is Revolution in the air, the Old Guard will always fall back and defend the status quo; after all, that is their meal ticket.

And I have nothing against a Constitutional Monarchy; King Juan Carlos of Spain has done a decent job of bringing together a country long divided by years of bitter political conflict.

But absolute monarchs that believe that they have a Divine mandate, need a good killin'.

19. I think the "Plot" part of that term is a U.S. reactionary smear from the 1920s
when influence from the Russian Revolution was feared to be infecting the labor movement in this country.

Obama was poking fun at the right wing, making fun of one of their ancient bugaboos.

20. Its a Chicago thing. Was a Lou Bolshevik who had a little pocket farm in the 1880s, 1890s
quite close into the center of the booming city. He was offered a cool million dollars (which back then was astoundingly real money) to sell his plot -- there were plans for a new McKim, Mead and White skyscraper -- but Lou wouldn't sell.

The thing was, from then on, none of his crops would grow -- and he didn't give up, when beans failed, he planted corn, when that failed, he tried tomatoes. He tried everything, but nothing worked. The scorned developer hired some hoods to poison his fields at night - old Lou never caught them - and he never caught on to what was happening, or wouldn't listen to anyone. He ended up dying on his plot, I think around 1910 or so?

Anyway, I guess Obama was saying that the Republicans have been saying that his Health Care plan is like Bolshevik's plot -- he wants them to try to farm it, but is secretly planning to make sure the whole thing never works -- maybe so they'll give up and let him go single payer? Who knows what those Republicans are thinking!
