Kudos...but be prepared, the naysayers and backseat drivers will be back soon. It's always easier to condemn than to support a leader. The measure of a person is not how they react when the going is good, but when the chips are down. I still have criticisms of this Administration and a couple speeches haven't changed that opinion...actions will speak for themselves. But no matter what, I stand with our President and am proud of voting and supporting him.

no courage yet. I wouldn't call him a coward, but if you think SOTU and this little meeting with the RNC is proof he's all you hope he is going to be, then you will likely be disappointed. He's proven that his solutions will be way too conservative, even his current idea of using TARP to fund jobs is way too small and conservative, and manly in tax cuts, not actual stimulus.

Keep hoping, you're going to need it to overcome the reality of the Blue Dem (or DINO) that he's turning out to be.

34. The reason why England does it

is because the majority coalition of the British Parliament appoints the Prime Minister to represent that coalition, and thus that person is accountable to the coalition. What the Parliament then gives, the Parliament can take away by voting no-confidence, and out the person can go (and most seem to resign before it gets that far).

In the U.S., the President is elected by the people, not the Congress, and thus is accountable to the people. However, by having Congress holding the purse-strings, a major check and balance would apply.

in implementing good policy will be the proof of this pudding.

I don't think the President is a coward by any shape of the imagination, but his first year in office showed that he was too willing to compromise with people who would not meet him halfway or even a quarter of the way.

When I hear him talking about Republicans joining him in the healthcare reform debate it makes me want to scream "you and the Democratic Congress have already compromised that down the drain, why get THEM involved?"

Detail #3: Everybody wants legislation passed that benefits THEIR district or state. Put the recalcitrants on notice that their requests will be ignored or deep-sixed unless they play ball.

not the President. If he can't accomplish what's best for the people in an efficient and meaningful way, then he is one of whom I'm fighting against. No giving up the fight here, my fights are the same as they were last year and the year before, and the decade before. Obama gets no pass from me if he isn't getting things done.

7. I've been very disappointed now and again...

but I've watched this guy intently for about a year and a half now and have learned that he always comes back stronger after being hit hard, and he is an honorable man who is striving to do the right things for this country. I just hope that people continue to see that he is working hard and that his agenda is going to take some time to show results. We're still seeing much of the results of the Bush agenda still, and very little of what Obama has done, but we'll start seeing more and more as time progresses. It's disheartening watching the liberals I love jump on him at a time when he needs our support and cooperation the most. I understand the criticism, and respect other's right to voice it, but can no longer tolerate the incessant bashing from certain sources. It has crossed serious lines at DU in the past few months.

What difference does it make if the President is feisty at a GOP "retreat"? I'm pretty sure no legislation was passed there and no executive orders were signed. I'm glad he did it, and I liked what he did, but really at the end of the day, it makes no difference.
