Will Obama ever be able to break the GOP Senate cabal?
Edited on Sat Jan-30-10 01:49 PM by Kablooie
Obama is astaoundingly sharp, ambitious and hard working with many important ideas and goals.

But up to now he hasn't achieved ANY OF THEM.
Up to now he has been a FAILURE on all his big, important proposals.

He can easily put the GOP to shame, blinding everyone with his insight but he still CAN NOT ACHIEVE HIS GOALS.

The problem, as you all know, is that the Senate Republicans can threaten to vote nay as a block and kill any proposal they want.

Everyone is so delighted with his exposing the GOP as petty and derelict but that will not make one iota of difference to his presidency. They will still block everything he does and he will remain an ineffectual president.

And in 2012, the GOP candidate may not be able to debate as well as Obama but he can repeatedly bring up the fact that Obama has failed to do what he promised. It's pretty easy to knock someone down if in 4 years they haven't achieved any of their vaunted goals.

Obama will be one of the most ineffectual presidents in American history unless he can find away to get through the GOP roadblock and gets some of his bills made into law.

He hasn't even started to do this yet and after the next Congressional elections it will become even harder.

This must be his primary challenge or else all his other proposals are just empty wishes that will dissipate in the wind.

If he can't destroy the cabal, history may judge Barack Obama as a lesser president than George W. Bush.

1. No, nor do I think he wants to
Breaking up the Republican "cabal" in the Senate would also be an attack on the Blue Dog Dems who share the same goals as the Republicans.

Do I wish he would try? Yes.

2. Thats supposed to be Harry Reid's job
Well... one would think Harry Reid would lead the charge in the Senate.. but he is an epic fail in that position..

3. He has been very effective. He's transferred trillions to the rich, he's fought off a movement to
reform health care, he's avoided having to create a New Deal type public jobs program, he's expanded the war in Afghanistan at the same time education has suffered substantial cuts across the nation, and he's managed to put global warming on the back burner. That's a lot for one year.

4. Calling him a failure is:
1) inaccurate; 2) way premature; 3) grossly unfair and unwise if you actually want him to achieve the things you're talking about; and 4) something a "conservative" would say in order to thwart and obstruct.

6. Your post is voided by a complete and utter falsehood:
"But up to now he hasn't achieved ANY OF THEM.
Up to now he has been a FAILURE on all his big, important proposals.

He can easily put the GOP to shame, blinding everyone with his insight but he still CAN NOT ACHIEVE HIS GOALS."

Look at the legislative record, sparky. This could go down as one of the best first years in Presidential History.

Your posit is bogus, and your motives here are suspect.

8. "..failure on all his big, important proposals"? All? HCR at this stage, but what others
do you include in "all"?
