...and it really was stunning. Obama was like the wise adult, in a room full of juvenile delinquents.
That Q & A encapsulated our country's political discourse--a circus being run by the GOP's lie-based machine of immaturity.
For so long, rabid, right-wing radio has been the mouthpiece of the Republicans. It's all salacious lies, exaggerations and complete distortions. They simply pull nonsense out of some wacky hat and run with it. Then, they all repeat the same lies and talking points--and before long--it all ends up on the network and cable news shows. The lies--after being repeated hundreds of times--are legitimized as "one side" of the political debate.
The problem is...there is never a debate. It's just very loud, and constantly repeated lies and complete nonsense.
It was amazing to see Republicans stand up, say these lies---and then watch Obama call them on the carpet. Not only did he refute their lies with facts, he totally punched a whole in all of this nonsense--and the fact that they are being absurd. No one has really ever done that before like Obama did. To have the President do it--was just beautiful.
I feel like the bullies ran the schoolyard for a long, long time. They got away with their vitriolic, soulless, backstabbing and lies for so long. Now, finally, someone has revealed their debased, immature behavior for what it is--utter rubbish. I mean seriously...can we behave like adults? Can we have a political debate--instead of some bizarre theater where Obama is painted as a Socialist and as someone who wants to destroy the country?
I am just so sick of the punk-frat-boy mentality winning the day. I really hope Obama--and the rest of the nation--continues to call them out. We can't run a country like this--with maniacal, cynical, stark-raving mad, screaming liars controlling the debate.
Major kudos to Obama. He put up with this nonsense for a year of his Presidency. He now has the bona fides to step up and tell them to "grow up"--because he allowed them to do this for a year.
However, the jig is up...and it's time to get down to business. Very proud of Obama.
