Conviction angers anti-abortion militants
Source: ap

WICHITA, Kan.— Those living on the virulent edge of the anti-abortion movement pinned their hopes on Scott Roeder.

Testifying in his own defense, a remorseless and resolute Roeder insisted he had committed a justified act for the defense of unborn children by killing Dr. George Tiller, one of the country's few physicians to offer late-term abortions. It was a bold legal strategy that, if successful, had the potential to radically alter the debate over abortion by reducing the price for committing such an act of violence.

When it failed, those who share Roeder's passionate, militant belief against abortion were outraged: One said they are getting tired of being treated as a "piece of dirt" unable to express the reasons for such acts in court. So while relieved at the outcome, abortion-rights advocates worry a verdict that should be a deterrent will instead further embolden those prone to violence.

"Many of those who came here in his support will be key to making (Roeder) a martyr for their cause _ all in furtherance of advocating deadly violence," said Kathy Spillar, executive vice president of the Feminist Majority Foundation.

3. Then maybe they'll start calling those dirtbags what they are
TERRORISTS.

Fortunately, most women are harder to scare. They'd rather risk death in an illegal abortion than go through pregnancy and childbirth against their will. Most women know what the stakes are. So do many of the doctors who treat them.

4. I wish he was a candidate for the death penalty.
If anyone should be put to death, it's someone who kills a doctor who brings children into the world.

These militants want to bring back reproductive slavery. These militants are self-righteous freaks with murderous hearts who want to control women's bodies. They are no more than sexist, hate-filled thugs.

5. Murder and a Terrorist ...
His intent was not only to murder. But to murder in a house of worship. As if he was God's agent.

His intent was not just to murder one doctor ... but to intimidate every Doctor who performs abortions of any kind.

His intent was not just to take such action on his own behalf ... but to encourage, other like-minded WHACK JOBS to do the same.

That is not just murder ... it is terrorism.

6. Well, he did testify so they cannot claim they were
"unable to express the reasons for such acts in court."

They sound like they think they should have the right to just go around killing anyone they do not like. I don't think it works that way.

7. They're tired of getting treated like dirt, unable to express their opinions?
Last time I checked, using violence and threats of violence doesn't exactly count as "opinion".

Try again.

10. Nota bene
They got everything they wanted, and they're still pissed off. Roeder got to kill Dr. Tiller. Roeder got his day in court. Roeder got to testify on his own behalf, talking about everything he wanted to say. He had good, competent counsel, an attorney who had actual criminal defense experience and who didn't sleep through the trial. And he's going to go to prison for 50 years, basically the rest of his miserable life.

And they're still pissed off. They still feel like they've been treated like dirt. They will never be satisfied. They will never feel comfortable in the society of others, even in a society where everyone thinks like them, they still won't be happy.

12. That would be the nuts pushing their 'religion' unto others...
Sorry they can not understand the many reason for why someone would get an abortion: From major fetal development issues to Rape.

For those ignorant hordes, if you child is no longer viable; meaning dead in your uterus, you would still have to carry it to term and give birth. Meanwhile, you uterus has been destroyed be cause the fetus calcified and destroyed your hope of ever reproducing..EVER. All because some religious morons 'believe' that every pregnancy is a healthy one or one that was desired.

Religious dip shit way of thinking:
Your kid did not develop a frontal lobe? Oh, carry it to term for jesus anyway. The child's heart is out side of the chest cavity? Carry it to term for jesus anyway. You were raped? I am sure it is all part of gods plan, carry it to term for jesus.

I say to them: Fuck you and the bronze age desert dogma you rode in on.

14. So, what were they expecting?
Edited on Sat Jan-30-10 07:00 PM by SoCalDem
Do people really think that walking up to someone you disagree with, and killing them, is going to be OK with the justice system?

Aren't many of these the same people who love to crow...."Rule of Law..Rule of Law"
