The reasons Repubs were so ill prepared and got their asses handed to them at the townhall retreat..
Edited on Sun Jan-31-10 02:49 PM by Union Yes
The 'retreat' that has the GOP in a state of RETREAT. RUN FUCKERS!

30 years of lack of achievement.

GOP policies. Tax cuts. Record annual budget deficits. 12+ Trillion Natl debt. Falling wages. Dieing middle class.

GOP achievements in the past 30 years are few and far between. In fact if one were asked to present a GOP achievement that didn't run America into a fiscal ditch, one would be hard pressed to answer.

Because there aren't any.

That's just some of the reasons why Obama mopped the floor with the GOP.

Think about it. If Repubs had achievements to brag about it would be much harder for a Dem Pres to go toe to toe and slap them down the way Obama did.

Instead, GOP policies have been epic disasters that have nearly killed our nation.

Fiscal irresponsibility and recklessness.

Pretend for a moment that Bushco's 2003 tax cuts were a raving success. Pretend those cuts created millions of jobs which they didn't of course. The exact opposite-job losses and zero job growth for the 2000's decade.

But pretend those tax cuts were a raving success.
GOP'ers framed many of their questions as Repub talking points. Obama even called them out for that fact in a humorous way. The GOP would have responded with questions for the President and framed their q's to rub their achievements in the President's face. This of course would have weakened the President as he stood toe to toe. Perhaps anyway.

Back to reality.

The GOP doesn't have that kind of achievement to stand on or fall back on in a toe to toe debate with a Dem.

When Gop'ers framed their talking point 'questions', the President stopped them in their tracks and called them out for it. Then proceeded to undo their talking points with informed brilliance.

Hence, the GOP was disastrously ill prepared and it showed.

They even admitted it.

................................................................................

This OP is a runup to another OP that I'm about to post regarding how Obama just showed America the need for re-authorization of the 'Fairness Doctrine'.

I'll edit to add the link in a moment.

4. All that, AND I think they underestimated the Prez. I don't think they
expected him to answer their questions as openly as he did, nor did they expect him to stay as long as he did. 70 minutes is a very long time for any Prez to do something like this. I believe they thought he would answer their questions in a very partisam way the same as they do all the time.

5. "30 years of lack of achievement"
Oh but you're wrong.

They have a near perfect record of achievement when it comes to overturning anything that benefited the average person and putting into place the looming corporate fascism were now seeing.

They were highly successful by their measure.

7. If they weren't so mean spirited, I could almost feel bad for them
Edited on Sun Jan-31-10 02:57 PM by Submariner
Imagine how embarrassed every republican must feel for being so taken in, so stoopid, as to actually have voted such an incompetent buffoon to be prez. Bush was so bad he needed boosts from his brother and the SCOTUS to steal his 1st election, and Dielbold in Ohio for the 2nd steal.

The poor GOOPper's saw their permanent republican majority melt away when it became very apparent that their guy, Bush, could not keep the country safe, even with the largest and most sophisticated intelligence community on the planet at hand.

The rethugs are so hurt and embarrassed because of their poor performance, especially in the arena of national security, that they are at a loss for words and ideas.

8. Very nice posts today "Union Yes"
I've recced both of them.
Unfortunately, a percentage of the voting public has the attention span of an amoeba.
They sure have trouble recalling the DimSon disaster and the "Just Say NO" RePukes.
How anyone could think about voting RePuke after the last 8 years is mind-boggling.
Terminal amnesia, I guess.

10. Thanks!
I agree with what you said too. It's sad and true but I think Dems are starting to wake up to these problems. Whether they act on them is another story. What you said really outlines the need for a new FD.

Amnesia is a result of relentless right wing propaganda. It's a sickening cycle.

I'll be calling and emailing Dems and the WH to at least suggest this.

I hope elected leaders start considering similar action. There was some talk in DC about reinstating the FD about 9 months ago or so. But it was just talk that died out. They need to bring that debate back front and center.

Hope is about all I got left. But Obama did at least renew that hope in the past week.

I feel better after venting!

Peace
UY

9. If it weren't so damned sad, it would be funny to hear them rave about deficits when they kept the
Invasion and Occupation of Iraq off budget for 7 years.

16. Most GOP's are stupid enough to believe most of their false propaganda
So it isn't a surprise at all that they can't go toe to toe with the president.

It only seems different in most "mainstream" coverage because there stupid shit is given "equal time and consideration". Most of the media in this country is not doing there job.

17. Diamond-esque
so many facets to this Rep Q&A disaster. Yours was one take I hadn't even realized. But you are absolutely correct!!! Of course this would have been the perfect time to crow about their acheivements...didn't happen because there wasn't any. Most of the questions were couched in terms of pretty campaign speeches about what hadn't been done to the Rep party liking and then followed finally with a question.
