Most Americans Don't Realize what a MESS Bush left Obama with, according to the CBO

If I could wave a magic wand and require every American to take note of three things, it would be these:

1. To read The Budget and Economic Outlook Fiscal Years 2010 to 2020 by the Congressional Budget Committee.

2. To watch the testimony of Douglas Elmendorf before the Senate Budget Committee.
http://www.c-span.org/Watch/Media/2010/01/31/HP/R/29020/Sunday+Homepage+CBO+Releases+2010+Budget+Elmendorf+Testifies+Before+Congress.aspx

3. To watch the testimony of Douglas Elmendorf before the Congressional Budget Committee. http://www.c-span.org/Watch/Media/2010/01/31/HP/R/29021/White+House+to+Announce+Proposed+FY2011+Budget+Monday.aspx

This is serious stuff. Bush made this mess, but we have to live with and prepare for the results.

Deadly serious, IMO.

Edit: Shamelessly stupid typos. My bad.

3. No surprise there. Many Americans struggle with trying to comprehend the relationship between
four quarters and a dollar too.

A national, not for profit HC system would help in the future.

it remains to be seen. This was/is the perfect opportunity to lead the country in a new direction and establish HC as a right and not a privilege, but we need action to take on the for profit industries, they do nothing but drain profits from health care.

"Am I alone? Or is the greatest President you have ever seen?"

9. So, uh, why did he give billions to bankers to use as bonuses? How 'bout those wars of choice?
Edited on Sun Jan-31-10 10:18 PM by Edweird
I'm pretty sure there are some wealthy people that aren't being taxed very progressively....
Maybe tax cuts aren't such a good idea right now.

11. Obama didn't start the wars. You cannot assign that to him.
Edited on Mon Feb-01-10 12:16 AM by SeattleGirl
He is drawing down troops in Iraq.

Yes, he's adding more troops to Afghanistan, but he did say during the campaign he would do just that if he felt it necessary.

Edited to add: He gave the money to the banks to keep the economy from completely collapsing. It was the banks choice to use the money as they are. And he's not happy about that.

12. I wonder how much of the blame for their
ignorance can be laid at the feet of this administration.
After all, we gotta look forward and be post-partisan and we can't go prosecuting war crimes and looking backward and prosecuting malfeasance is just out of the question because it isn't non-partisan and etc.

Makes it a bit hard to explain to people how many laws Bush broke to leave us in the state we're in.
"Then why hasn't he been charged if he broke so many laws?" "Hell if I know."

14. Hell if I know
Indeed.

It is just that that keeps my support for Obama lukewarm at best.
I see people being called to the dock for relatively minor infractions,
while the biggest bunch of criminals runs around loose.

Makes it ever so difficult to explain to people where our problems began.

13. I am well aware of the mess,
and never expected instant results.

I just want to be headed in the correct, which would be the "left," direction.

Which is not happening.

16. Most people ARE aware...
They are just not aware of the extent of the mess. That's why most people are unhappy that it wasn't cleaned up within a year. They know it was bad, just not HOW BAD.

17. That's a faulty idea:
that people are upset that it "wasn't cleaned up within a year."

People are upset because policy is going in the wrong direction. The mess will NEVER be cleaned up if the nation is still headed down the wrong path.

If we were heading the right direction, people would have more patience for the process of getting there.

There's no point in having patience while the Obama administration gallops off the wrong way.
