"John Edwards Sex Tape"
Edited on Tue Feb-02-10 06:57 AM by Stinky The Clown
How can such a phrase even exist? How can a presidential hopeful, a vice presidential candidate, and man admired by so many be so FUCKING STUPID and Childish as to allow a sex tape to be made of him bonking a woman not his wife?

"John Edwards Sex Tape"

"Paris Hilton Sex Tape"

"Tommy and Pamela Lee Sex Tape"

What a sorry chapter ......

Edit to add context: The fact that there are still active threads with this phrase and the fact that the tape remains in the nooz.

1. A combination of delusion, misplaced trust, and stupidity explain it all.

2. And arrogance.
When this story started to leak out a while back, my best work pal came into my "office" and said, "What's with these men? Why can't they keep it in their pants?" At that moment, Edwards, whom I had strongly supported, became just one of the others. I was so disappointed.

3. Obviously Big John was letting Little John do the thinking--the party and the nation dodged a bullet
Seriously, I am so happy that this narcissistic, delusional fool did not win the Democratic nomination.

While I cannot even imagine what it must feel like to be Elizabeth Edwards, I feel most sorry for the ordinary people who believed in John Edward's message and in him and were betrayed by a candidate who not only could not keep it in his pants but apparently had absolutely no concerns about having himself put on tape screwing his girlfriend while using his cancer stricken wife to build up the sympathy vote. The very idea boggles the mind.

There was always something, I could never quite put my finger on exactly what, that made me dislike the man. I guess my instincts were right.

5. I felt the same way. Feminine intuition? -
- Even with all the cheer leading and praise being poured on him, there was always something about Edwards that made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I never liked him. I never, ever trusted him and always felt he was lying through his teeth. I've heard the same from other women and I think it must be a sort of feminine intuition that kept us from buying into his hype.

11. So's Andrew Young
I saw his interview on GMA yesterday. Simply put, once he knew he wasn't going to get a high level position within an Edwards administration, he suddenly found his moral compass.

As for Elizabeth Edwards, if she had simply come out and said, "America, don't vote for this fraud of a husband who has used me and my cancer as a campaign prop," I'd have some respect for her. She found her outrage when it was obvious that she wasn't going to be First Lady.

And as far as Johnny goes, he can stay in Haiti for all I care. Oops, I'd better take that back, the Haitian people have suffered enough!

12. I have to admit that I allowed my admration for Elizabeth and JRE's well thought out health care
reform plan overcome any intuition on my part. I loved the Idea (fantasy now as we know) of John and Elizabeth going bravely into the future. I thought they had a beautiful family.

JRE's health care reform plan was substantively better than Obama's and Clinton's at the time. At Edwards talked openly about how his plan would really force the big private insurance companies to compete, which they couldn't do and would eventually force them out of business. That made sense to me. I also liked what he said about the idea of "sitting down at the table with the insurance companies." He said that you can't sit down at the table with these people because they take all the food!

Well, a broken clock is right twice a day, as the saying goes. I am now just beyond anger and disgust at this guy. I now think he went full bore into psychosis...

His body language screamed untrustworthy, most notably the non-stop blinking when asked a question. Nevertheless, my wife was fooled by him.

25. Absolutely.
Even if you supported John Edwards (and I did not, FTR -- I always thought he was a sleazebag), can you imagine what his presidency would have been like had he won? If he wasn't able to cover this up, all of his initiatives would be in complete disarray. Even if he were able to cover it up, so much of his energy and that of his political aides would be exhausted keeping people quiet. The Republicans would probably easily take control of Congress in the mid-terms, and there could be a party-splitting primary among the Democrats in 2012.

square in the nuts because of that. No scarier thought than Edwards being elected to have this come out later, we'd be fucked way more than we are now.

I remember when I sorta liked him too.

17. Well, it can be a symbol for examining our own netroots conventional wisdom
on many subjects. I was amazed at the Edwards idolatry that pervaded the netroots during many many months (really, a year and a half). This was from the so-called "base" we hear so much of today, claiming to speak for "all of us" on a range of issues, from killing the health care bill to the evils of Rahm Emanuel, etc. They were wrong on Edwards, and so one wonders how right they may be on other subjects. It's at least worth a little bit of humility for self-examination.

From the beginning, no amount of factual argumentation could convince people that John Edwards's seductive rhetoric on issues like poverty had notthing to do with his record, or that his political opportunism and apparent narcissism were problems. The conventional wisdom of the "base" was wrong on this one.

Therefore, examining that old and admittedly embarrassing issue could be helpful in refocusing our attention on other current netroots conventional wisdom. Just saying.

22. exactly.....many here at DU believed the Edwards' version of 2004 over
Kerry and his campaign? Kerry proved his strength of character decade after decade and has had a more positive impact on our nation's REAL historic record than all the Dems in the senate today put together.

But, the Edwards' circle chose to exploit internet rumors in order to glorify John Edwards, completely uncaring that they fed into outright lies about Kerry.

they have better things to fill their time with. In this case 'they' meaning the bobbleheaded news readers.

It's all by design

26. a prudish mob descends
this thread is either a sad example of American prudery, or a sadder example of liberals whimper and grovel to any republican framing of the world.

A right-wing cretin who loves the whores (Vitter) gets a standing ovation from his buddies. Another one, a former drunk and military deserter (*), is painted as a patriot and hero. A liberal politician has an affair and makes a sex-tape? Liberals descend to tear him limb from limb...let's save the hypocrites on the right the trouble.

A President Edwards administration mired in a sex tape scandal? Probably accomplish more than an Obama administration packed to the gills with right-wing democrats, Bush-era republicans, and corporate shills.

28. Were you asleep during the Clinton years?
Sure there is a double standard between Dems and the GOP but it's there and needs to be delt with. If Edwards had won it would be all sex tape all the time, lawsuits, legislation, impeachment hearings, it would have been a disaster.

Edwards showed piss poor judgment and that is not a quality we need in a President right now. I may not agree with everything Obama is doing but he is getting things done.
