You can stop wondering if we're going to lose Congress and the Presidency
DNC Wastes Half-A-Million Thanking Ben Nelson For Ruining Health Reform

"The numerous days spent trying to appease Ben Nelson resulted in the Senate vote being delayed, and ended up pushing it very close to the Massachusetts election. The horse-trading Nelson demanded all year greatly damaged the bill’s popularity. The Medicaid deal for Nebraska, added to win Ben Nelson’s ultimate support, became a huge political issue in the Massachusetts special election. And, of course, that $500,000 would probably have been better spent at that exact moment helping Martha Coakley.

If the DC Democratic establishment wonders why the base is very depressed going into 2010, or wonders why House Democrats are on the path to suffering crushing defeats in the midterm election, actions like this from the DNC are probably part of the answer."

Many of us were hoping that the loss of Ted Kennedy's Senate seat would be a wake up call to Obama and the leadership.

The answer is a resounding NO!

1. The question is how the party will react to monumental losses. I doubt that they will learn
anything.

I am positive they will continue to move reich-ward.

They never learn. And never will unless they lose all power (which for them will come with a 51(puke)-49(DINO) Senate make-up). And probably not even then.

3. We have to be prepared for everything to go to hell in a handbasket.
Sadly, I suspect it's going to take massive crushing losses to purge the party of the Neoliberals now running the leadership. Gore not making the presidency taught them nothing. And considering what's coming, it's going to get very, very ugly.

2. There is a certain resolve in this administration
much like the Bush administration not to learn a damn thing no matter how wrong they are.

6. I think Democrat will lose seats, but not control in Congress.
That is not unusual and it has only not happened twice in modern history: once under Roosevelt and once under Clinton. I'm pretty sure that Obama is safe in 2012, but who knows. A couple of pretty speeches and good moments is not going to turn around an entire year and cure the depression that many of the rank and file Democrats feel as well as their disappointment.

My guess is that we will pretty much see the same old same old in the coming years. Won't that be special?

7. This is a long article, but, imo, well worth the time to read.
An Ugly Week for the Humans & Other Living Things
by David Michael Green

http://www.commondreams.org/view/2010/01/30

snip...

What the last thirty years make increasingly clear is that the Democrats have simply become a sort of halfway holiday from the worst excesses of the GOP, a kind of spring break from the serious business of wrecking a superpower. When things get really obnoxious under Republican rule, the Dems come in to provide the requisite comedic interlude for a few years. When the economy is good, they may even be invited to actually stay a bit longer, as Bill Clinton was - provided, of course, that he didn't actually mess with anything that mattered. When money is tight, however, comatose ineptitude as a governing philosophy doesn't play so well, and the duration of the Democratic intermission gets short.

That's only a snip of a scathing article on Obama & the Democrats.
