It's remarkable how much the GOP has changed in ten years
Edited on Sun Feb-14-10 11:26 PM by Ardent15
10 years ago, Bush won the GOP Presidential nomination posing as a "compassion conservative." And he could be even more conservative in 2004 because of 9/11.

In 2008, Tom Tancredo did poorly in the Republican Party primaries, and a more rational, less exteme conservative won (McCain). But thanks to McCain plucking Sarah "Real Amurka" out of nowhere, he managed to make the Republican Party even more ultra-right-wing. Just remember that Daily Kos poll about Republicans in 2010.

Now, I wouldn't be surprised if someone even more reactionary and racist than Tancredo won the 2012 GOP nomination. Because the Republican Party has become the Tea Party.

3. I really feel that McCain's choice of Palin has a LOT to do with the current political climate.
The overt nastiness and almost overt racism. It's direct followup to "terrorist! Kill him!" from the campaign trail.

McCain personally bears a lot of resonsibility in my opinion.

6. I have a feeling the GOP is getting ready to split
the so-called "moderate" Repukes, and the teabaggers.

The moderates will nominate someone like Romney; the teabaggers won't go for that and will nominate Palin(or some other fascist nut) as a part of the newly formed Tea Party in 2012. They will split the vote causing the Democratic candidate to win. :)

7. McCain is a warmonger, and also Fred Thompson was a disaster
the Republicans put their hopes in Fred Thompson who sucked. Huckabee did ok but the wall street Republicans didn't like him . but Huckabee stayed in long enough just to hurt Romney. Romney did well with wall street types while Huckabee did well with the social religious conservatives. McCain took the rest plus indies.

the winner take all system of the REpublican Primary helped McCain a lot. he could win all the states delegates by just getting more votes than the rest of the candidates.
