The media's new darling phrase: "Shi'ite cult" |
|
You want to talk about religious cults in Baghdad? Groovy. Let's throw in a couple of cults based in America - like the one that now controls The Washington Times. You remember the Moonies, don'cha?

back in the '70s, when all the horror stories were coming out about brainwashing tactics. Incredible, ain't it?

2. A little off topic, but |

I just noticed your sig line. If my German is accurate (and I don't know if it is), I think it means "Where man burns books, he eventually also burns people"
Scary thought.

3. If they can call them all "cults", then they can kill Shiites or Sunnis or both.. |

4. It may be appropriate though |
|
and this is my thinking on it. I know plenty of muslims who are peace loving and firmly believe in their faith, but the fundamentalist, theocratic extremists have "hijacked" (we hear) the "peaceful" religion of Islam. Then it might be appropriate to call it a cult to clearly differentiate between it and mainstream Islam.

6. Well, the fight of the moment was with a "Shi'ite cult" |
|
This was Shi'ite-on-Shi'ite violence with a millenarian cult of extreme Shias threatening to kill the Shi'ite religious establishment in Najaf. These weren't mainstream Shi'ites.
