Toyota: Democrats 'not industry friendly'

Internal Toyota documents derided the Obama administration and Democratic Congress as “activist” and “not industry friendly," a revelation that comes days before the giant automaker's top executives testify on Capitol Hill amid a giant recall.

According to a presentation obtained under subpoena by the House Oversight and Government Relations committee, Toyota referred to the “changing political environment” as one of its main challenges and anticipated a "more challenging regulatory" environment under the Obama administration's purview.

This document, in addition to piles of other records, will be front and center this week as the Japanese automaker girds to face lawmakers hungry for answers about a recall that has the company teetering.

Upwards of 8 million cars have been recalled in the U.S. and worldwide, amid reports of Toyota's vehicles accelerating rapidly. The problems have turned political, as the company has shuttered some American factories, potentially resulting in layoffs.

I guess we can see why those Republican senators and Rush Limbaugh were creaming themselves about our auto companies going bankrupt now.

19. It's union junk when it is made in Japan
they outsourced here for the non-union workers...I wonder if the product made in Japan is bad too or is it just what was built here with our lack of enforcement of regulations under the repug control?(since it is just certain vin #'s I'm guessing that it's only the product made here and it wasn't built up to even their standards)

They are part of the recall, as are Highlander and RAV-4, which are built at other Japanese plants. Another recalled line, the Matrix, is assembled in Canada.

is people friendly.

I wonder if Toyota considers the Supreme Court; "activist" as they just stripped 100+ years of precedent without regard to the American People's First Amendment Rights?

<snip>

"The “Activist Administration & Congress – increasing laws & regulations” is listed as one of “Toyota Challenges,” as is “Massive government support for Detroit automakers.”

Thanks for the thread, NJmaverick.

Funny how they don't talk about the subsidies Toyota gets from the Japanese government -- as well as the huge tax-breaks desperate communities throw at Toyota to make the company build its nonunion plants there...actually, it's not funny at all. It makes me FUCKING SICK.

28. No. I was thinking of how long Government has regulated corporate political speech,
that being 1907 per this interview, and it seems this judgment was based on the notion government had no business putting limits on corporate political speech, in that sense do you believe precedence was broken?

15. From stupid to brain dead. Democrats buy a lot of Toyotas!
Boycot these fools! I used to buy Toyotas for reliability. The Repukes up the road bought SUV's, Hummers, and Oldsmobile type cars. I gave up my 'buy American' practice when Clinton pushed NAFTA and GATT, and went to Toyotas. No more!

And are not as easy to buy off as Republicans. Therefore Toyota's little "quality" scam is being exposed.

31. It probably still is
Many of the Toyota loyalists are likely avoiding most of the new Toyota threads. I still see comments about how these Toyota problems are a conspiracy by GM/oil companies, that Toyota is still makes higher quality than the US automakers, etc. For some people, criticizing Toyota is like criticizing their religion.

38. Ah so sorry, big mistake, we fix, no worry, you not worry we fix
nothing wrong, little mistake, we can fix we sorry no problem.

I used to hear that all of the time when they would make production promises and break those promises or give the goods to another dealer who threatened to drop the line if they didn't give them goods. They manipulated supply to create demand and then when they made a shitty product refused to fix the problem, just change the model number and claimed it was improved.

39. Yes, because being "industry friendly" has been SUCH a "win-win" for EVERYONE in the U.S.A.
These past three . . . hundred years . .

Oh wait, no it HASN'T.

Sure, there's the occasional odd man/woman who manages to rise above it all despite the stacked deck. There's also records of people who win $100,000 via scratch off lottery tickets, but that don't mean I'm gonna be raiding a machine at my local Giant Eagle anytime soon.
