Sad story... I was hoping they'd find him alive.

Missing actor's body found in Vancouver park, source says
February 25, 2010 7:14 p.m. EST

(CNN) -- Actor Andrew Koenig, missing since February 14, was found dead in Vancouver, British Colombia, Thursday, a source close to the family told CNN.

The body of the former "Growing Pains" star was found in a park, according to the source, who spoke to Koenig's father after Koenig was informed of the discovery.

The source asked not to be named because of the sensitivity of the matter.

Koenig, 41, was reported missing by his parents after he missed a flight to Los Angeles from Vancouver last week.

Vancouver police confirmed a body was found in Stanley Park around noon Thursday, but they would say only that it was "believed to be that of Andrew Koenig."

A police news conference was set for 5 p.m. PT (8 p.m. ET).

13. I know, nonconformist but I was just hoping beyond hope
that he would have just been found in a catatonic state somewhere in the back of beyond. My husband's family had a strong history of depression and bipolar syndrome; so this is hits way too close to home.

12. Very admirable quality there - using a tragedy to get in a personal dig.
I kid. It's not admirable at all.

21. Kirk Cameron and the real meaning of Friendship
I remember when Jonathan Brandis died, Chuch Norris was all tears and sadness, telling everybody what great buddies they were. Well, Jonathan’s friends, supposedly, said that was a bunch of crap. Jonathan and Chuck got along great while filming the movie “Sidekicks”. Jonathan thought he and Chuck were friends and saw Chuck as a mentor and hero. Unfortunately, Jonathan never heard from Chuck once the film was over. And it hurt him. I wonder how many times Kirk has called Andrew and asked how he was doing or just invited him out for a movie or a sandwich? Otherwise, I would tend to believe his anguish was merely a chance to promote himself and his causes. And that Andrew was merely a prop. Both Chuck and Kirk run around telling everyone how Christian they are. I always figure that they do that because you would never know it from the way they act.

From what I’ve read, Andrew Koenig was an incredibly nice guy and a good friend to all that knew him. I'm sorry that I never got a chance to meet him, because anyone would be the better for numbering him among their friends.
That is the tragedy of it. The world has too few of them and can’t afford to lose any…

Remember Me
Remember me with smiles and laughter,
Because that is the way I will remember you.
If you can only remember me with tears,
Then don’t remember me at all

19. Another Vancouver tragedy.
First, the luger Nodar Kumaritashvili (hey, I spelled his name right without Googling!) dies in an accident hours before the Winter Olympics. And now a famous TV star. So sad. I've only seen Growing Pains once or twice, and that was nearly 9 years ago on Chinese TV.

20. I had not realized Andrew Koenig was a vegan.
His father mentioned it on his website.

http://www.walterkoenigsite.com/

I wouldn't have known this if I hadn't just started visiting Animal Concerns for animal-related news. I was extremely perplexed to find an article there on Koenig's death, so I read it to find it was because of his veganism. He sounds like he would have been a great person to know.

It got me thinking about the actors he worked with on Growing Pains, and there was another animal lover, Alan Thicke, who hosted the wonderful show Animal Miracles. The last time I caught it was just a few weeks ago when they did a rerun from 2003. I was surprised to find I had donated to some of the sanctuaries they covered in that episode over the holidays. It's been an especially hard winter, but it was heartening to interact with so many animal sanctuary and rescue owners. Many thankful e-mails, and lovely cards with handwritten messages in snail mail. Even for donations as small as $10. I couldn't have asked for better therapy. I wish Andrew could have found something to lift his spirits like that.
