"...deputy dressed as leprechaun..." (How MY city makes extra money)
50 motorists cited for failing to yield to deputy dressed as leprechaun

http://www.myvalleynews.com/story/45690/

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010.

MORENO VALLEY - About 50 motorists were cited today for failing to yield to a deputy dressed as a leprechaun on several Moreno Valley crosswalks as part of a decoy program, a sheriff's sergeant said.

The Moreno Valley Traffic Team conducted the pedestrian decoy program from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Sunnymead Ranch Parkway and Old Country Road, and at John F. Kennedy Drive and La Brisas Way, said Sgt. Don Goodrich.

A deputy, who dressed as a leprechaun in bright green clothes, crossed the crosswalk while children were present, Goodrich said.

Many of the motorists who were stopped said they never saw anyone in the crosswalk, even though the deputy was in costume, according to Goodrich.

In addition to the citations, seven vehicles were impounded because the drivers were unlicensed, the sergeant said.

1. That's cheating.
Leprachauns don't exist, and therefore are not pedestrians.

5. Yes, but you don't have to yield to them in traffic.

3. 7/50 = 14%
give or take a few percentage points to allow for the "about".

Wow.

I wonder what percentage were driving without insurance.

...

I was waiting in line the other day, and I talked to this dude from Moreno Valley. He (said he) paid $200,000 for a house there several years pre-peak. At peak, a comparable (in-neighborhood) house went for $350,000 ("He is gone."); recently one sold for $120,000.

(Dude refinanced, so he's way underwater; but he needed the money since he was getting less work... even before the housing market crashed.)

Grim stuff.

6. It IS grim here.. The house next to us sold for $63,200.00
It was severely vandalized though, but still It's a 4 bedroom ...2 car garage 2.5 bath, w/ nice yard and a large bonus room.. One just like it sold before the crash, for $386,000.00

We're just going to remodel & stay put (our house will be paid off in 4.5 years).. we've been here for AGES, and have been upside-down before..but then we did not use our house as an ATM:)

I never "loved" this house.. it was all we could afford, but having it paid off & fixed up for us is something I can live with:)
