1. Actually, I'd have preferred a Medicare buy in option

to some cockamamie public insurance option that would have to be built from the ground up and which would not be in operation until I qualified for Medicare. Being able to buy into Medicare NOW would be a huge help.

Still, the public option was dangled in front of the party progressives (who, after all, are representing the dead center of this issue) as a compromise because nobody else in Congress wanted single payer. Too many people who rely on insurance company income as their retirement income would have been hurt had they done it all at once.

Expanding Medicare makes the most sense and has always made the most sense.
