DUers still keeping track of the Amerithrax/Ivins case, two quick notes.
Edited on Fri Feb-26-10 12:04 AM by EFerrari
One, I want to thank the DUers who helped me distribute Dr. Meryl Nass's rebuttal to the FBI bs last week when they declared the case closed. Dr. Nass gave me permission to send it out and autorank, arcadian and a DUer who shall remain nameless, not to mention Skinner, helped her material go all over the place. It didn't go viral but damn near did. I am in awe of the power of the tubes. Thank you so much.

:loveya:

Two, look who's also objecting to the FBI's conclusion:

US House seeks further review of anthrax attacks
February 25, 2010

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House of Representatives is seeking further review of the 2001 anthrax mailings that killed five people.

House members approved an amendment to an intelligence authorization bill Thursday that would require the government to look for credible evidence of foreign involvement in the attacks that killed five people and sickened 17 others.

The action comes six days after the FBI closed its investigation by concluding Army scientist Bruce Ivins was the sole perpetrator of the attacks.

The amendment was offered by New Jersey Democrat Rush Holt, from whose state the letters were mailed, and Maryland Republican Roscoe Bartlett. Maryland is home to Fort Detrick, the Army installation where Ivins worked before he killed himself in 2008.

Both congressmen have expressed doubts about the FBI's conclusions.

http://www.dailyrecord.com/article/20100225/UPDATES01/100225084/1002/SPORTS/US+House+seeks+further+review+of+anthrax+attacks+

The Congressman representing Ivin's home town and the Congressman representing the district that was the scene of the crime. That's a pretty direct rejection of FBI's conclusions, imho.

1. When did the FBI go over to the dark side?
I have only followed the anthrax stories sporadically, but enough to know mass coverup was going on.

3. I can't answer that without incriminating myself.
lol

Meryl Nass's blog is a must read if you are interested in this case. She's an anthrax expert and she knew Bruce Ivins.

4. I'm glad someone is insisting there is more to learn.
I'm not as up to speed on the matter as I would like, perhaps you'd consider something of a recap with the next update. For me, and the history of the case, Ivins' suicide and the FBI's response to it seemed played out rather than developments that evolved.

6. Here is a link to Meryl Nass's first blog post in response to FBI "closing" the case.
Edited on Fri Feb-26-10 01:55 AM by EFerrari
She has hot links right at the beginning to the news stories she is responding to.

http://anthraxvaccine.blogspot.com/2010/02/fbi-case-closed-and-ivins-did-it.html

The shortest recap is, FBI investigated/stalked Bruce Ivins for over two years. When they were wrapping that up, their case was based on science. But, the science didn't work out. They claimed only he had access to material that could be traced by DNA but it turns out that over a hundred people had access to that material, not even counting people who'd requested samples over the years at other facilities. Also, Ivins co-workers said they didn't have the equipment or the tech at that lab to make the kind of anthrax used in the attacks.

Then, FBI released a number of stories that painted Ivins as a lone nut. That didn't work out for them either, he wasn't. He had mental health issues but he was a family man, a community guy and a well like co-worker. Then, after Dr. Ivins committed suicide, they assured Congress that NEW science would make their case and they commissioned a report from the NAS to that end.

That report is not going to validate their case.

So, it looks like in an effort to get ahead of this unfavorable report, the FBI reverted to character assassination and declared victory -- with the help of our supine media. Senator Leahy and Rush Holt, in especial, don't seem to buy this mess of a story but it's unclear what they can or will do about it.

And isn't it wonderful that any letter you mail to your Congressman even NOW will be "delayed " for up to 3 weeks so it can be checked for anthrax?

members and they tried to paint Ivins as a conservative Catholic. It turns out that, while his wife might be one, he wasn't at all. His letters to the Frederick paper show no sign of wing nuttery. ETA: Oh, and BradBlog discovered that he was a registered Democrat.

23. Yep. Meryl demolishes that in her response.
Ivins didn't have a substantial investment in the vaccine he was working on as "reported" by the LA Times and there were others in development.
