I'm sitting here in Vermont, watching the radar because there are all kinds of storm warnings, and I'm no weather man but this looks a little strange.
At first there was a single large storm, with a line going down the middle of it, dividing the snow from the rain. Normally the snow is on the North side and the rain is on the South side.
At about 9:00 I noticed it was kind of strange becaus on this storm, the rain is on the North and the Snow is on the South.
Since then, the two sides of the single storm have broken into two separate entities, as shown in the screenshot above. As you can see the storm to the north, centered over Maine, is rain (green/yellow) and the storm to the South is snow (blue).
The current temperature in Portland Maine is 42.
The current temperature in New York City is 27.
I'm currently in the middle. I'm not sure if this storm was predicted to break apart like that because we were supposed to get a lot of rain and some snow too, but now I'm thinking we might just get the high winds... which are kicking up right now, big time.
I'm not a weather junkie but I do check the radar when storms are coming and I don't remember seeing anything like this before were it's cold in the south and warm in the north.
On Edit:
Weather.Com is now reporting this storm is "unconventional":
Storm Watch
Northeast storm will continue
A very powerful but unconventional storm continues to batter the northeast with snow, rain and strong wind.
...
Parts of the Catskills may see up to 30 inches of snow....
Rainfall could total 9 inches in parts of eastern Maine....
Strong damaging winds will also buffet much of New England with gusts of 30 to over 50 mph possibly producing coastal flooding from Long Island northward through eastern New England.
