Daily Mail on US "Betrayal" over Falklands, speculates
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1253878/The-Falklands-betrayal-U-S-fails-British-oil-claims-row-American-torture-secrets.html

America's refusal to support Britain in the Falklands oil drilling row was last night blamed on the UK's decision to release sensitive U.S. intelligence on a terror suspect.

President Barack Obama was accused of being 'feeble' by failing to back London in the stand-off with Argentina over the disputed islands, despite the 'special relationship'.

1. Turns out the claim comes from the Henry Jackson Society
A bunch of neocon wannabes from a couple of Cambridge colleges who lament the fall of Tony Blair, and suck up to anyone who'll support 'liberal interventionism'. Their director actually blames "moral weakness in the White House or a misplaced desire to punish Britain for the Binyam Mohamed case" - in other words he's guessing. And a Tory MP guesses too.

2. no idea whats happening here, but i wonder if the argies were dumb enough to invade again
would the UK get military support from the US in order to take back the islands again.. would be interesting to see what the white house reaction to a request would be...

3. I don't think they're contemplating any military action
What they might do is boycotts of more and more bits of the Falklands economy, to try to force a good financial deal on the oil business if it takes off.

4. yup but you never know what might happen, i still wonder if the US would back the UK though
you would think the argies would give it up though, the falklands are never going to be theirs unless all the people just up and leave or something...

5. The Daily Mail is the British equivalent of Rush Limbaugh's talk-show
And their two main sources here are a representative of the ultra-hawkish, British-neocon, Henry Jackson Society; and Patrick Mercer, a Tory MP probably best known for having been forced to resign from the Shadow Cabinet for saying that there are many 'idle' ethnic-minority soldiers who use racism as a cover!

I bet the RW tabloids would love to whip us up into a war with Argentina over the Falklands - it's getting to be a while since we had the last one.

6. the way i see it, if the argies dont invade either the islands or blockade them then there wont be a
war but if they do then basically they have declared war on the UK, i dont think unless there is an act of war that theres going to be any military action. Still the UK has to make argentina realise that the islands are british and will remain so...
