Classy Canadian crowd Chant "USA! USA!" after devastated team's loss.
I guess this empathetic outburst from the largely Canadian Olympic audience was not decisive enough to warrant mention in various media. I've never seen so many sad faces at an event and found the response from the crowd extremely moving.

I'm sure the same thing would happen here if circumstances were reversed....

10. I watched that game and had bitter sweet tears. Happy my team won but
sad that it had to be at the expense of my dear mates, the American's. You guys fought hard and played well and all pride to a wonderful team of American's.:hi:

12. I always cheer Canada except when they have close US competition.

Even then, if I think the Canadian is more deserving, I might just say "cool." I presumptively back the Americans, but right behind them I'm cheering for the Canadians, too.

I am drawn to human stories first. The woman figure skater whose mother died, for example. How can you not pull for her to win? The Chinese couple figure skaters who were retiring, how can you not pull for them? Shaun White. He's inventive.

The Canadian women's curling team is my favorite of the entire winter Olympics. They're awesome!

13. Yes, they also cheered Finland for the bronze.
And the applause was more than polite. It was nice to hear. I do feel for the Americans; they were just outplayed that day but have nothing to be ashamed of. I know it's tough to lose (and harder still to keep from showing it).

14. Also...
...they cheered any American athlete who, after receiving their medal, turned and waved to the crowd. Certainly the US fans cheered but I could see many Canadian fans cheering as well. Sport is sport, and as a Canadian I cheered hard for my team. But when all was said and done, I love hockey, and hockey players, and I cheer for the sport and the players who sacrifice their all.

18. I went to a hockey game in Canada shortly after 9/11
When they played the US national anthem, the Canadian crowd roared in approval, and when they came to the line "land of the free", many, many of the Canadians took out and waved little American flags.

It still moves me to tears to remember it.

America is the impetuous impulsive adolescent brother.... all posture and bad manners.

24. Except for the wrong call by the Canadian judge in men's short track speed skating today...
actually two possibly bad calls on two races that led to the Canadian fellow getting gold when he should have been disqualified.

22. That's nice, but Canadians have been caught booing the US anthem MANY times at NHL games.
Positive broadbrushes are as valid as negative ones.

23. Well to be fair, it's gone both ways when it comes to the NHL
for the last few years and booing national anthems ...... a pretty classless thing for anyone to do.

We're grateful to each and every athlete that worked and sacrificed to get here, including those we do see a lot. They've all been amazing to watch.
