BuzzFlash's "Turn Off FOX Campaign" Penetrates the U.S. Military

http://blog.buzzflash.com/alerts/796

FOX's hypocrisy continues in touting its own "trusted" coverage of the news and hosts who claim to have the best interests of the nation at heart while FOX has a major shareholder who flaunts manipulating the news and allegedly maintains ties to terrorism like Saudi prince Al-Waleed bin Talal. The network's coverage proves especially dangerous when people end up subjected to the network's biased coverage in places such as military bases, an area that should be devoid of a network that would baselessly accuse the Commander-in-Chief's administration of including "people who have the Jihadis' best interest and not our best interest at heart." Fortunately, as the furor over FOX's hypocrisy and its ubiquity continues, so has the critical action it has inspired. A Turn Off FOX reader let us know about his outrage and what he has done about it.

---
I am a retired DOD Civilian and use the recreation facilities at a nearby base. I am subjected to being present when Fox News is televised. Since learning of the Saudi Prince Talal's stake in Fox his support of families of suicide bombers, his funding and support of CAIR which is influencing Fox's coverage of anything related to Islam, I have begun a campaign to inform as many Public Affairs Offices of this unsavory relationship. More than 135 U.S. service members have died at the hands of suicide bombers. I have researched the statistics available through iCasualties and have identified the personnel killed and their associated commands. I am in the process of contacting those commands. I have written letters to the editors of the local press and also to Stars and Stripes. I may eventually contact family members and ask if they would be willing to discuss the circumstances of their loved ones deaths and the implications of having a major "news" network funded in part by a sympathetic de facto terrorist. I am sickened by the crass capitalist motivation by these people at FOX. Members serving in the military need to understand who is not on their side. Enclosed is a copy of the letter. Anyone interested in helping with this project may contact me and -- put "Military FOX" as the subject of the E-mail.

-snip-

Indeed, service members and their families do deserve much more than that. Before the military, or any other branch of government, forces people to watch the network, FOX has a lot of questions to answer about its own motives. Glenn Beck once inconceivably asked Keith Ellison, the first Muslim Congressman, to "prove to me that you are not working with our enemies" simply because of Ellison's faith. Given the mounting evidence against FOX, perhaps Beck, FOX, and Al-Waleed bin Talal should try to prove that now. Until they do, people need to keep the pressure on them for their dubious intentions -- and choose to Turn Off FOX.

3. In an amazing example of surrealism
Edited on Fri Feb-26-10 02:23 PM by maxrandb
I'm active duty military and wasn't feeling good one day. I hustled over to my "Government Run" Health Clinic, had my vitals taken by a "Government Funded" Corpsman, saw my "Government Provided" doctor, took my "government paid for prescription", to the "government provided pharmacy", and sat with my fellow "government funded employees", waiting for my "government provided prescription" to be filled....only to find "Faux and Fiends" morning show on in the pharmacy waiting room, railing against "government run Health Care"!!!!

I actually stood up and asked; "does anyone know how stupid we are to be sitting here waiting for our "government provided" medicine while watching Faux News?"

I got a few glares, but I also got quite a bit more nods of agreement.

WE SIMPLY MUST END THE PRACTICE OF THE DOD PROMOTING FAUX NEWS BY BLASTING IT FROM EVERY G#@ D@#^ TV!!!!!

By the way, we should point out that the TV that Faux News is blasting from...IS A GOVERNMENT PROVIDED TV...WITH GOVERNMENT PROVIDED CABLE!

14. That is so incredibly ironic. And that anyone would glare about it
means that they *don't* get it. Thank you for standing up and saying something.

15. I used to turn off the TEE-VEE at the hospital & hide the remote....
with a little effort and the remote one could child block with a password the entire channel. That ought to drive them nuts.

19. Had Squadron Duty Officer one night
and I blocked Faux with a password.

Some folks "bitched" about it, but suddenly, ESPN became our channel of choice in the Ready Room.

6. I refuse to do business with any store or company that has Fux on its tv.
Last one was my dermatologist who backed off and changed the station rather than have me walk out of an appointment. I challenge you all to do the same when ever possible whether it be an auto repair shop or doctors office or where ever you can refuse to do business because of it. My bet is that they'd rather have your money than have Fux on their tv while you are there. Try it ...I dare you. ...hrmm ...well maybe you are just one of those all talk and no action weekend keyboard warrior types. No guts = no change.

12. Karma will out
Small resturaunt last night - the former "Fox only" TV's are on NECN (regional news network, partly owned by Comcast). The doc's office is on CNN, clinic waiting rooms are off.
Even Fox Sports on-air personalities are beginning to rebel - Sarah Palin's tour of Daytona during the 500 wasn't reported until the next day, and got about 7 seconds of a mumbling Darrel Waltrip - and Darrel rarely mumbles! Danica Patrick has, in contrast, drawn hours of positive, well nuanced coverage.

9. That's a nice meme that we can borrow directly from Glenn Beck.
"Hey Fox, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies"

11. Fox is nothing more than an indoctrination machine. I have gone in to
doctors offices and even some businesses like auto shop business while waiting for my car being repaired. What is on tv? fox news. No wonder people are so dumb down. I mean I have family members who are college education doctors and that's all they listen to. You can't reason with the people. I only have a high school degree and I think I am more informed then any of them. Fox NEWS is huring this country badly.

16. I ask whoever is in charge to change the channel anytime I see it in a public place
And I tell the straight up, the more you watch that the dummer you will become. I tell them it is misinformation, mostly unpatriotic, and at best just fringe lunatic nonsense. But then I tell them one way or another, I don't have to spend my money in a place that offends me. So what's it gonna be?

I don't use the local Auto Parts store anymore, I drive to the next town for anything I need, for just that reason - and I made sure the owner knows it too. Small cost to him, great satisfaction for me.

18. I have managed to get one huge tv in a public area taken off Pox
This thread and the other thread delineating the bin Talal connection will be helpful if I have a chance to get over to the other huge tv tuned to Pox-in-a-public-place where I work.

(I also got rash limbutt-in-a-public-place turned way down on grounds of respect for diversity.)

speak up anytime you have the opportunity
