You Are Missed, Mr. Bill Hicks (12.16.61 – 2.26.94)
Edited on Fri Feb-26-10 02:15 PM by Last_Stand
"I'll show you politics in America. Here it is, right here.
'I think the puppet on the right shares my beliefs.'
'I think the puppet on the left is more to my liking.'
'Hey, wait a minute, there's one guy holding out both puppets!'
'Shut up! Go back to bed, America. Your government is in control. Here's Love Connection. Watch this and get fat and stupid. By the way, keep drinking beer, you fucking morons.'"

2. His voice would have been appreciated during the *'s presidency...
...I'm sure it would have made his 'dark poetry' about limbaugh look like a nursery rhyme.

3. K&R Hicks was nothing short of genius.
Brilliant, funny, scathing, and we lost him right when we needed people like him the most.

The world is like a ride in an amusement park. And when you choose to go on it, you think it’s real because that’s how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it’s very brightly coloured and it’s very loud and it’s fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time and they begin to question, is this real, or is this just a ride? And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, “Hey – don’t worry, don’t be afraid, ever, because, this is just a ride…”

And we… kill those people.

“Shut him up!...We have a lot invested in this ride. Shut him up. Look at my furrows of worry. Look at my big bank account and my family. This just has to be real.”

Just a ride. But we always kill those good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok. But it dozen’t matter because: It’s just a ride. And we can change it anytime we want. It’s only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings and money. A choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love, instead, see all of us as one.

Here’s what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money that we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace.

6. K&R, with a side of quotes for the kiddies:
Drugs:
You never see a positive drug story on the news. They always have the same LSD story. You've all seen it: "Today a young man on acid...thought he could fly...jumped out of a building...what a tragedy!" What a dick. He's an idiot. If he thought he could fly why didn't he take off from the ground first? Check it out? You don't see geese lined up to catch elevators to fly south; they fly from the fucking ground. He's an idiot. He's dead. Good! We lost a moron. Fucking celebrate. There's one less moron in the world.

---

Wouldn't you like to see a positive LSD story on the news? To base your decision on information rather than scare tactics and superstition?, perhaps? Wouldn't that be interesting? Just for once?

"Today, a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration – that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There's no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we're the imagination of ourselves. Here's Tom with the weather."

Intelligence:

I've noticed a certain anti-intellectualism going around this country; since about 1980, oddly enough. … I was in Nashville, Tennessee, and after the show I went to a Waffle House. I'm not proud of it, but I was hungry. And I'm sitting there eating and reading a book. I don't know anybody, I'm alone, so I'm reading a book. The waitress comes over to me like, {gum smacking} "What'chu readin' for?" I had never been asked that. Not "What am I reading?", but "What am I reading for?" Goddangit, you stumped me. Hmm, why do I read? I suppose I read for a lot of reasons, one of the main ones being so I don't end up being a fucking waffle waitress.

---

You ever notice that everyone who believes in creationism looks really unevolved? Eyes real close together, big furry hands and feet. "I believe God created me in one day." Yeah, looks like He rushed it.

---

And I'll tell you something too. That's starting to annoy me about UFOs, the fact that they cross galaxies or universes to visit us, and always end up in places like … Fyffe fucking Alabama. Maybe these aren't super-intelligent beings, you know what I mean?

36. I love his bit on marketing and advertising:
"Oh by the way if anyone here is in marketing or advertising - kill yourself. No this is not a joke seriously kill yourself, you have no rationalization for what you do, you are Satan's little helpers. I bet you sleep like fuckin' babies at night. "Oh hi honey how was your day?" "Oh we made arsenic-flavored children's food. We just asked the question are your kids complaining too much?."

belief that evolution wasn't real because "god only put dinosaur bones on earth to test our faith." Bill said that even if that were true, the whole idea of a prankster god really turned him off.

14. See I think drugs have done good things for us, I really do.
If you don't think drugs have done anything good, do me this favor - go home tonight, tale all your albums, tapes and CDs and burn them. Because you know the musicians who created all that great music that's enhanced your lives throughout the years? Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreal fucking high on drugs. Man the Beatles were so high they let Ringo sing a couple tunes, tell me they weren't partying!

RIP.

23. I love Bill Hicks -
I have a dvd of Bill's appearance on one of Rodney's Dangerfield's first "Young Comedians Special" with:

Lenny Clark
Dom Irrera
Andrew "Dice" Clay
Carol Leifer
Robert Schemmel
Barry Sobel and
Bill Hicks.

Bill Hicks was outstanding.

His bit about a cheating ex-girlfriend seeing him on HBO while she lies trapped under her naked, hairy, 400lb, sweaty, boils on his ass, dead, bile running out of his mouth into her face, redneck trailer park living boyfriend still kills me to this day.

He says something like:

"Hey I'm on TV! How you doin"?
