I really hate Chase
You expect banks to be seedy, but Chase is in a class of it's own when it comes to stealing money from their customers.

Last year, they had been pulling all sorts of tricks on a credit card I had with them, tacking on unexplained fees, changing due dates, mailing statements late, and every other trick in the book. I finally got fed up with a customer support rep who outright lied to me on the phone about reversing a charge. So I paid off that credit card right then and there and canceled the account, vowing never to do business with Chase again.

Well, then WaMu went under and Chase bought them, and next thing I know Chase owns my second mortgage. As soon as that happened, they started finding ways to get more money out of me. First it was flood insurance. They tried to charge me a few grand for a years worth of back flood insurance. Thankfully, my insurance agent came to the rescue and found that I wasn't even close to the flood zone they claimed I was in.

Now Chase is tacking an unexplained $50 fee on to my supposedly fixed second mortgage payment. I know banks can mess with fees on credit cards, but I thought mortgages were off limits for things like this. WaMu never did this in the years I had the loan with them, and in fact, I've never had a mortgage company tack a fee on to a payment like this. This loan is not even a home equity line of credit, it's simply a fixed loan at a fixed rate.

So, I'm about to call Chase to ask about this charge, but I thought see if anyone else has had a similar experience before I call.

I really, really, hate this bank. I can't wait to refinance this loan and get Chase out of my life once again.

Sorry for the rant...

3. I ripped up all of my Chase credit cards last summer..
Edited on Fri Feb-26-10 05:45 PM by HughLefty1
I had used one of those cards for over 15 years without a single late payment but it didn't stop them from doing alot of the same dirty tricks to me. They finally sent notices in the mail about raising my interest rates and gave a toll free number to call if I didn't want the rate hikes. Of course I called the number and was told my only choice was to cancel the accounts if I didn't want the hike. They even drastically raised the rate on one card I was paying off. I believe with the new legislature Chase will not be allowed to raise the interest rate on an outstanding balance although I'm sure they will come up with new tricks to recoup that money. I will never use another Chase card.

4. I'm in the same position. Thanks for posting!
I loved WaMu and Chase promptly screwed me as you described. I closed my accounts and paid off their card. I have a HELOC which I kept due to the low interest rate. But I know they will screw me in due time. I now figure I need to get rid of Chase 100%. My gut tells me so, and you reminded me. Thanks!

12. Working on it...
Banks are very tight with money these days... funny how we gave them a few hundred billion and now they refuse to loan it back out.

But I have the income, decent credit, a good loan to value, and all that. It'll happen.

8. At this point I would seek a free consultation from an attorny
to see if I had any grounds for suing Chase for possible illegal behavior.
Most reputable attorneys do not charge for a consultation.
I would even be willing to pay the attorney to look at your mortgage and write them a nasty letter.
The fee would be worth the freedom from stress and headaches,
And from further damages down the road by their bullshit.

9. Be glad you don't have Wells Fargo.
But I can certainly emphasize. Chase pulled the same thing with me on a very-small-credit-line Visa about 2 years ago. I paid it off and cancelled it.

10. Interesting. JP Chase is the only credit card company I really like.
They call me whenever they think there may be fraud on my card. They are the only bank that has enlarged my balance over the past two years and sent me a new card.

Bank of America and Citi are two banks I have not one positive thing to say about.

11. I have a Chase card. Went to the bank timely with a Chase check to pay full balance.
Chase subtracted the amount twice, letting three later checks bounce for insufficient funds that were supposed to have been there. I went back and got the bounced check charges removed after threatening to withdraw every cent that minute and cancel my card.

13. Providian was ok...WAMU was ok...both easy to pay online...
Morgan Chase got into the act and immediately, double billings, strange charges, an online site that doesn't work half the time, shifting due dates back and forth and all the rest. Paid on time this month and they took out two payments instead of one...the site barely worked.

Sorta reminds me that Morgan owned the Titanic.

Most of these banks should be proudly flying the Jolly Roger.

16. I'm not a fan of any bank really but I've used Chase for 9 years now and had no problems
they have never charged me one cent in fees or any other kind of charges. I use a debit card from them for 99% of my local and travel purchases, and their free bill paying service for all my utility payments and also I have an Amazon/chase Visa that I use for purchases that add up to 'gift' certificates they send every so often, I but a lot of stuff from Amazon using those...so all in all I'm happy with them and zero complaints. Maybe I've just been lucky.
