I know that 1000 is just a number and that everyone else has tens of thousands, but here's my 1000th.
Today, is January 29th 2007, it's a little after 11PM. The entire General Discussion board is full of "Iran war coming" type threads. It is the subject of these threads that scare me. Many of us are freaked out of our minds with the prospect and even the concept of the start of a war that will most likely, if it doesn't start with, end in at least one round of nuclear strikes against a country that has done nothing to us. We are not in a struggle with Iran as we were in with Japan when we dropped the first two atomic bombs many years ago in an attempt to bring about an end to a bloody world war. The consensus is that the war with Iran will start sometime before the end of April. That gives us less than three months to prepare. I don't mean three months to get plastic sheeting and duct tape, but to prepare for the earth shattering changes that this war will bring. We will become the ultimate bad guys. We will bring down the wrath of the rest of the world onto our heads. The world will never be the same. How will we, the people, respond to our government? Will martial law be declared in order to quell the unrest that erupts in the streets? Will the gas valves shut off? Will the tractor trailers that deliver food stop running? Will the international ships refuse to deliver goods to our ports? Will the power go out? Will anarchy break out? How many citizens will die in clashes among ourselves and the authorities? What will happen to our troops that are next door to the nuclear theater. How many will be irradiated on the spot? How many will feel their stomachs burn months or years before the cancer takes its toll. Will our troops be stuck in the desert and have to face the wrath of the rest of the world? Will our troops in other countries face the same punishment? Will the Germans arrest our troops who are stationed in that country? Will every American troop have to pay the price of being treated as an international war criminal?
I have dozens of questions, but no answers. I only hope that other people begin to broadly question what the world will be like five minutes after the reports that we have nuked another country make onto the world stage, then five hours, five days, weeks....
Please get your hearts and minds ready for what I hope will not come to pass. I'll close by repeating my introduction, I'm scared.
