Well when I landed in Vietnam
I hardly got to see Saigon

... it did not negatively impair my life. Of course, I did not start using cannabis until I was a senior in college, so my brain (and my personality) were pretty well developed by then.

I went on to graduate with honors, complete two Masters degrees in nine months (apiece), and run ground-breaking public health programs at the state, federal and tribal levels for three decades. In my 40s, cannabis use moved from being primarily a recreational alternative to alcohol to being a medical alternative to opiates (prescribed for degenerative joint disease and fibromyalgia).

Cannabis use didn't impair my life. Laws against cannabis use did (and still do).

... suggested that you didn't have much of a life while you were using cannabis. Again, for whatever reason you quit, I am glad you did if it improved your ability to "get on with it." Since terminating cannabis use is relatively easy for most people (unlike, say, nicotine addiction), I assume that quitting pot was not difficult.

My comments were simply to suggest that cannabis does not impair everyone's functional abilities, though anti-pot laws certainly do.

As I moved deep into my 20s, I actually began thinking about that. When the price of weed got too high, that was one more thing that led me to just give it up altogether. It was one thing when I was still in college after my USAF service, but another when I got married and bought a house. Seemed silly to be worrying about getting busted for some habit as replaceable as weed.

For me, life really began when I started getting serious about it. Quitting smoking dope was part of that. It's sort of a symbolic thing, really, putting down the bong. Turns out that it worked out pretty well. It might not have if I had continued life as I lived it while still in college. Who knows?

Again, how someone incorporates cannabis use into their lives (or not) is a matter of personal preference and capacity to maintain balance. Some do perfectly fine continuing to use cannabis, others do not. To each his own.

I don't denigrate people who choose to quit using or choose never to use. You might extend that same courtesy to those of us who function quite well with cannabis, rather than stereotyping us as playstation-obsessed slackers. Me, I don't own computer games or a television. Too much appreciation of life to fill it up with trivia.

Your own personal tastes and stories are somehow actual fact which apply universally? What a crock of sorry you are. I was at the top of my field, at age 25, smoking along with my mentors and those who were in charge. People with global accolades, large piles of cash, patents, hit records, huge box office, the Pulitzer Prize, Oscars, the works.
Were you taught that your own personal experiences add up to science? If you get ill from dairy, does that to you mean everyone does? Where did you study this 'science' that leaps from personal taste to universal declarations of truth? Was it on a matchbook?
