Why Tenent's new book is a total crock of shit...
The news reports about this new "bombshell" of a book are leaving out one very, very important detail which makes me suspect about this entire release.

The CIA had to review the entire book and it could not have been published without government approval. That's the rules with ex-spooks, and I'm sure with a security clearance like Tenent's it was no less stringent.

So, what is the real motivation behind this book? And whose motivation is it? Is it a smokescreen, another diversion to send the hounds down the wrong path? I don't have any idea, I admit...but this book wouldn't be on the shelves if "they" didn't want it to be.

Sunday morning food for thought.

1. How is Bush presented in the book? Is he an innocent by stander in this fiasco?

3. I want to read it just to see what distortions of the truth are in it.
Might be interesting to read it, list separate footnotes of corrections and links, then donate it to the local library.

5. You see no separation between the White House and the CIA?
It's your impression that those who reviewed the book approved its writing and influenced what went in? It seems highly unlikely. True, the book had to pass a certain level of scrutiny within the CIA, but there's no such requirement for the White House.

Bush and Cheney have never been fond of criticism, and Tenet's criticims of those two has been scathing.

I do not trust Tenet or his motivations; however, it's more likely that his motivations are purely selfish rather than the result of some upper level conspiracy.

9. The CIA and White House vet ALL books coming out by anyone with any classified access
those are the rules. Google 'CIA book vetting'. There is political tug of war every time a book comes out by someone with clearance, and there are negotiations. You can bet your ass that the White House was well advised by the current CIA chief that the WHITE HOUSE appointed is keeping them well apprised of what is in George Tenet's book.

What is going on here is a paid game of Cover My Ass. Tenet gets a payoff from a friendly publisher to write a book of revisionist history covering his ass for the forgeries and cherry picking and blaming the White House, and in 20 months, every one of the White House cabal will be doing the same thing.

What seems 'highly unlikely' to me is that ANY of the major players - Cheney, Bush, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, Tenet - would EVER, EVER, EVER let out anything remotely resembling the truth about exactly how forged documents from the ISI ended up in the President's speech, and how dozens of other disproven pieces of 'evidence' ended up in Powell's dossier as he lied to the UN and the world about our reasons for going into Iraq.

The unwritten rule in the Bush administration is that you help them with a crime, and when you are exposed, Bush says something nice about you, gives you an ironic award and throws you overboard. Then, you are allowed to go out and say a few things in your defense - but if you go too far, the Bush Cabal will personally destroy you and take your biggest strength and make it your weakness. Call it the Rovian School of Mafia Management.

What is really absurd on its face is how many people really believe a CIA chief would ever publish anything truly incriminating about his own time in office about something as serious as an illegal war.

All you have to know about the motivations of this prick is to watch his defense and denial of torture by the CIA, all the while offering up a justification of torture to prevent terror attacks. He is out selling a book and trying to rehab his image and put some distance between himself and the White House. Don't let it work. It's a lie. The war could never have happened without George Tenet cooking up and selling the false intelligence - mobile weapons labs, bunkers of chemicals, Niger Yellowcake Uranium, Curveball.

Fuck this guy.

10. I already agreed about the CIA clearance of specific content of books...
but no such authority exists for the White House.

The reason for CIA clearance is obvious and is limited to very specific types of information.

Ok, but there is absolutely no legal authority allowing the WH to do one thing. They can pressure publishers or threaten the author, but they cannot prevent publication and have no censorship authority. (In reality, a former member of the CIA could publish just about anything, but the penalties for all involved would be brutal).

On this, we agree completely.

6. It's just fun to watch them fight with each other
Both sides are probably partially telling the truth and partially lying.

I doubt it's a smokescreen - I think it's just more of a "disgruntled former employee" thing.

7. Get Ready For "He Was Appointed By Clinton"
While the manure Tenet spews here is not revealing or nothing new to any of us...in the bubbleworld that the booooshies inhabit, this is "hugh".

This now becomes another damage control operation...and to find scapegoats and diversions to avoid facing the facts this regime lied us into a war for profit. They've spent the past 5 years discrediting the CIA...using Tenet as a firewall...since he assured us it was a "slam dunk", then what did those little "desk jockies" like Plame know?

Now that he's cashing in to "tell his story", his former "friends" will now rewrite history, once again, to make him appear to be another cause of the problem. I expect the fact that Clinton appointed him to be a major hate radio talking point within the next 24-48 hours.

Now will Tenet go on with Tweety and answer his question if he ever forwarded a copy of Joe Wilson's briefings with Crashcart???

11. I guess that Tenent will go easy on the chimp
because the chimp didn't make Tenent--a Clinton Admin holdover--the scapegoat for 911. He doesn't have the same kind of loyalty for Dick or Rice.
