IT WORKED!!!! 31% of Americans believe Toyotas unsafe; GM's Domestic Sales Climb 12%
<http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE62121B20100302>
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Thirty-one percent of Americans now think Toyota and Lexus vehicles are not safe to ride, while 55 percent say the carmaker dragged its feet in responding to potential safety defects, according to a poll published on Tuesday.

General Motors Co. reported a 12% increase in February domestic sales, as Toyota Motor Corp. said it is offering an "aggressive" incentive program for March to try to lure buyers back to its U.S. showrooms.

1. What, Toyota's plan to self-destruct? I'll say it did!
Toyota is merely reaping what it sowed.

2. Are you suggesting that Toyota doesn't have some safety problems -
they just have an image problem?

3. Toyota did this to themselves.
The only thing that "worked" was Toyota's cover-up hurting their sales.
:nopity:

27. And even more help
from the leading shareholder of Toyota's biggest competitor.

If GM couldn't get its bills paid on time one way, we'll damn well find another way, right?

8. toyota adds an x 10k or more to vehicle for safety and quality. i was finally willing to pay that x
a couple years ago, then noticed quality slipped significantly.

i would say toyota did a good job of it on their own.

Don't see where this is the same. GM's issue is minor compared to Toyota.

15. GM is recalling 1/6 the number of cars Toyota is.
We'll see if it gets anywhere *near* that amount of press.

20. Maybe if GM had....
covered up the problem for years, blamed the consumer, and people had died, it would cause the same amount of press.

14. I'm too young to really remember the whole Ford/Firestone scandal but I drive a Ford
I'm sure once Toyota fixes their problems they will be back on top again. They gave the people what they wanted. The public asked for a hybrid. Ford, Chevy, and GM ignored the public and kept on making monster vehicles. Toyota gave us the Prius. They will fix their problems and they will keep being the leader in innovation while all the others try to catch up.

23. Agreed!
You didn't see Ford apologizing for their recall. Rather, they just blamed Firestone and made it all their fault. As if they don't have a choice of tire to use, or better yet, do their own QC of the tires they purchase.

26. GM made "monster vehicles"
because that's what the public wanted. Toyota and other foreign companies have been desperately trying to make gains in the SUV/truck market. People only wanted smaller and hybrid vehicles when gas prices rose. Once prices fell, SUV sales rose again.

BTW, Toyota also makes "monster vehicles." But I guess it's ok when Toyota does it.

16. GM's Domestic Sales Climb because GM dropped Hummer.
Now Hummer's gone, GM might focus on something better.

25. You forgot to add that unsourced Ford recall you love to mention.
So much so that it accounts for at least 10% of your posts on this site.

I find it interesting that you so often choose to respond to what you perceive as a slur against your automaker of choice with a slur of your own.
