After spending eight years in conventional war in Afghanistan and failing to obtain our objective, the American Empire has recently adopted a new strategy — divide and conquer — with a smiley-face.
The U.S. military is going to go into an area, drive the Taliban out, install puppet leaders, provide a few services, ring the area with our military to protect that newly created “Green Zone,” and hope that democracy grows.
This is “Empire Lite” — taking control over resources and territory with the minimum of bloodshed — the kinder, gentler way to make war.
So what’s wrong with America being an empire?
First, the American people did not vote to have an empire. Indeed, most people don’t even know we are an empire. And they certainly don’t understand the consequences.
