Washington has a lot of money. It has trillions for war, but no money for housing. Money for war, but no money for health care. Money for war, but no money for education. Money for war - no money to rebuild our cities. No money to create jobs, but money for war.

The Democrats took control of the Congress in 2006 with a promise to end the War in Iraq and it's not enough for this Administration to slow-walk the end of the war, which could continue for years to come. And it's not enough for a Democratic Administration to escalate a war in Afghanistan at a time when there's no clear objective and no end in sight of the contribution of blood and treasure, to a region which has never been conquered by any foreign country.

It's time that we take a stand as citizens. And it's also time to force Congress to take it's Constitutional responsibility seriously. Article 1, Section 8 requires that Congress has the war-making power. It is absolutely imperative that Congress be required to assert it's responsibility on behalf of the American people. Congress is directly elected by the people. And Congress has to respond and step up to it's responsibility to decide if we're going to stay at war in Afghanistan. And so, soon, I will bring to the Floor of the House a Privileged Resolution which will force a vote as to whether or not we stay in Afghanistan.

I ask your support for this Resolution. I ask you to go to that page on our website where you can sign-in and pledge your support to the effort to get out of Afghanistan; and where you can circulate far-and-wide the petitions that will enable us to be able to build a rising, civic movement for peace and social justice in America.

Money for war: Isn't it time that we demanded that the resources of our country be used to create the society that we know that we're capable of building.

If we reduced our military budget by half, we would still spend more money on it than all the other countries in the world combined. Meanwhile, the billions and billions we've handed our destructive war contractors could have been used to give all Americans access to Medicare, to improve our crumbling infra-structure, improve our schools provide housing for all who need it.

We have a huge deficit because of the Bush-Cheney wars. Instead of stopping those wars, Obama is continuing the disastrous Bush administration policies which benefited only the wealthiest one percent of our population. The U.S. is now paying for over 1000 foreign military bases. Simply closing those bases would give us the money for health care.

I'm living in Venezuela where there is universal health care, as well as free education to the university level, subsidized housing for the poor, and subsidized food stuffs for all citizens. The Venezuelan government is providing for the needs of its citizens. The U.S. is providing for the wants of the wealthiest one percent, while visiting death and destruction on innocent foreigners and on our own soldiers.

Dennis Kucinich has consistently fought for the rights and needs of the majority of the U.S. population. He is a real Democrat, not a corporate whore like many of the DLC Blue dog traitors. We need to support him and his honest policies. Sign the Petition!

This week, Representative Kucinich plans to introduce a privileged resolution invoking the War Powers Act to force the President to withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan this year. Because it will be a privileged resolution, Congress will be forced to debate the issue of the open-ended U.S. war in and occupation of Afghanistan.

U.S. soldiers and Afghan civilians continue to die needless deaths in Afghanistan because of the failure of Congress to act to bring the war in Afghanistan towards a close, or even to debate it. On February 24, the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission said it had confirmed 28 civilian deaths from the U.S.-led assault on the Afghan village of Marjah,<1> a town of some 80,000 people. At least six U.S. soldiers have been killed in the offensive.<2> But the assault on Marjah is merely a "prelude" to the planned U.S.-led assault on the Afghan city of Kandahar, ten times the size of Marjah, the Washington Post reports. <3>

It is virtually certain that the Kandahar offensive will result in many more American and Afghan deaths -- deaths that could be avoided if the U.S. would adopt a political strategy to end the war, instead of the current military escalation.
