The argument could be made that what happened in those 8 years was a result of one party refusing to cooperate and steamrolling its agenda through.

Personally, I think we need some "steamrolling" by Dems to get things closer to equilibrium, but Democratic politicians are every bit as harmful as Republican politicians when allowed to forward their agendas unchecked.

Funny how "government sucks" only rears its head when the Republicans have recently screwed the country into the ground, and conservatives are waiting until enough time has passed that maybe no one will notice that it was their guys, and not the Democrats now back in charge that caused the mess.

Then when a conservative's in office, it's right back to "Dissent equals disloyalty."

I can only conclude that this massively hypocrtical attitude marks the success of the "Culture war," dating back to the '60s and before. It doesn't matter how well liberal or Democratic policies *work* or how disastrous conservative policies turn out to be. Monied interests have learned that all you have to do is raise a little fear of immigrants, hippies, gays, racial minorities, other religions, etc. etc., and a certain segment will gladly follow them over any cliff they choose.

In other words, it's not what you do. It's who you ARE that matters. Look at Mitt beating the drum of "Never Apologize (for what Republicans did in the name of)America." It's an absolutely lethal irrationality and I wonder if we can ever outgrow it.
