Elizabeth Warren: "My second choice is no agency at all & plenty of blood & teeth left on the floor"

While members of the Senate Banking Committee debate proposals to fix the nation's broken financial system and ineffective approach to protecting consumers, Elizabeth Warren has one message: Pass a strong bill or nothing at all.

"My first choice is a strong consumer agency," the Harvard Law professor and federal bailout watchdog said in an interview with the Huffington Post. "My second choice is no agency at all and plenty of blood and teeth left on the floor."

There's been a steady leak of Senate proposals to fix the dysfunctional way federal regulators protect consumers from abusive lenders. One was an independent unit housed within the Treasury Department; another was a new entity, housed in the Federal Reserve, with little independence or power.

The Senate shouldn't waste its time, asserts Warren, explaining that current proposals fail to address some of her key priorities such as arming the proposed agency with independent rule-making authority, without interference by bank regulators.

"My 99th choice is some mouthful of mush that doesn't get the job done," Warren said.

is testifying about "Your government"

He will state "Your government doesn't have this" and "Your government doesn't ahve that"

Whose goverrnment is his government? His statements bolster arguments made by the Ron Paul followers about how the Federal Reserve and the inner crowd at Treasury work for outside interests.

Oh and Timmy the Elf's statements are lies a lot of the time - sure cannot say that at all about Elizabeth.

10. You can see lots of Warren in...
The 2006 documentary Maxed Out: Hard Times, Easy Credit and the Era of Predatory Lenders.

Outstanding movie, and it seems incredibly prophetic now.

I often wonder what happened to that Las Vegas real estate hack who appears in it. She was building a $$$ multi-million dollar house, using financing that assumed the equity would be more than the value of the house by the time construction was done.

As the documentary points out, that's exactly the kind of financing Enron used.

39. Thanks for the link ~
She had a small but important role in Michael Moore's 'Capitalism ~ A Love Story' also and she was excellent. One of the memorable moments in the movie was when he asked her where had all the money gone! She thought for a second and then responded, sincerely 'I don't know'!

She should have been Treasury Secretary and I would love to hear from Obama why he did not choose her and worse, why he chose Geithner. I'm thinking they have to choose people who are part of the club and can be depended on not to tell any secrets, or kick up a fuss. Someone like Elizabeth Warren clearly could not be depended on to remain silent about what she might see if she was Treasury Sec.

The DLC signaled some 35 years ago that the Democratic Party would not. Her not being in power is the logical consequence of the "new" Democratic Party.

62. I think I already knew the answer to that
It was really a rhetorical question. I'm hoping that todays attitudes towards Wall St. are waking at least a few people up.

The Teabaggers are STARTING to get the idea that they're screwed, but they haven't made the BIG connection yet.

How about if we just taught the American people some basic financial math?

Anyway, I feel like I am missing information about this abusive lending problem. Other than Payday Loans, which seems to be a different kettle of fish.

49. What sheer intelligence!!!
She is incredible. Very knowledgeable, very informed. And yet she can explain the situation in such a common sense approach that anyone can understand.

I love how she puts it all in perspective by saying "the American taxpayer".

For instance, this morning, I saw her on CSPAN talking about Citibank and she constantly said "we, the American taxpayers" own 27% of this company now, etc., etc.

This woman knows her stuff!!!
