Bloodied and bruised, it looks like they will get a vote on something.

I'm sure some of you see it otherwise, but I can't see what we gained by the path down which we've been led. Yes, something looks like it will get passed and signed. I'm glad for that. Yippee. Cue the confetti drop.

It seems to me we could have seen a far better bill get this far with this much blood and bruising. It just seems to me it didn't have to be this way. Or that if it DID have to be this way, we should at least have gotten a better bill.

Yeah. I know. Never satisfied.

1. Do you have any ideas how that might have happened given
the rethugs and Dems have been dicking around with this for a year? I think we're getting the bare minimum, but also think that's better than nothing.

3. We sure have learned to settle for crumbs and be grateful.
Yes, something is better than nothing.

8. Crumbs to me will be any kind of health care-I lose mine
in May. All of them. And, I had cancer many years ago, though that is still considered a pre-existing condition.
So yea, I'll take crumbs at this point.

9. I understand
But you must admit that you (we - all of us) could have had more had we followed a different path.

10. Sure, and hindsight is 20/20, sausage making at it's finest, etc., ad nauseum.
But it is what it is now, so I'm hoping for the crumbs, as you so eloquently put it.

We've still come further than has ever been done before, and I'm hopeful the process will be completed and then improved.

11. Some of us wanted more and are disappointed at we have
Particularly given the strum und drang of all that bipartisan/postpartisan/nonpartisan reaching across the aisle and coming back with a bloody stump stuff.

My issue is that it didn't have to be this way.

I'm not saying we should refuse what we have and I agree it is better than nothing. At the same time, it isn't good enough.

12. We all wanted more-rethugs and some Dems didn't want any of it.
So this is what we're left with. And it will have to be good enough, though Dr. Dean gave me hope yesterday that he will continue to fight to improve what we wind up with. I'm sure he's not alone.

13. I worry about that "fix it later" stuff
Congress has a particularly crappy track record at fixing things.

Unless its war.

Or tax cuts.

14. "Fix it later" = bullshit.
It has been shown time and again, the things that need to be fixed later rarely get revisted. :(

16. it isn't hindsight when you are told at the beginning that this will happen.
Almost everyone of us KNEW that the GOP would never support anything. Was Obama the only one on the planet that assumed beyond the point of the ridiculous that they would support anything? WHY On earth were concession upon concessions granted beyond the point it was obvious? And WHY doesn't the president ask that Democratic provisions be reinserted now that we KNOW for certain?

2. I know what you mean
It would seem that after this, all the complaints last August about "pushing things through" seem a tad silly. Why wait 5 months to do it anyway? And for all this blood letting, you trying to tell me "the single payer never had a chance"? Heck, it seems if you started with single payer, a robust public option at this point would seem like a serious compromise.

4. Real
care reform??? I am so disgusted with Obama and his wishy washy positions that I could spit like a mad cat. I'm sure that if Hillary had been the POTUS, we would have had real health care reform before Teddy passed. Boy, am I mad!!! It takes away the enthusiasm when we struggle to win elections and then we still have the same "shit..." If it weren't that I am a yellow democrat, I would not vote ever again in elections. Lets hope that Dean runs in 2012; either him or Hillary.

6. If they had gone to the mattresses w/ single payer...
none of the GOP would vote for it. They would have pissed and moaned, and called us socialists.

In other words, not much difference. Except we'd have single payer.
