C'mon, we know these people. Their only reason to exist is to deprive Democrats of everything they can. It's a sad, limited existence but it's all they have.

For their help in undoing something that could have potentially brought and end to corporations reign of plunder and exploitation in health care and instead transforming it into a vehicle of their continued exploitation and price gouging.

Publicly, they expect reform to "fail" in the long run - because it is written in such a way as to not control costs of care or even premiums, or provide substantive regulation or close loopholes in denials of care or policy terminations all while mandating universal coverage.

So while they will be disappointed that they couldn't completely defeat Obama's agenda, they will be more than pleased that the successfully manipulated the bill to a point where its effectively harmless to corporations. It also has a secondary benefit: it sets of the push for the privatization of medicare.

So I think that those in the GOP leadership, connected to the bigger picture of their interests will feel a mixture of success and failure. Obviously the grand slam would have been to defeat Obama's agenda completely. But what they've managed to accomplish in derailing any truly meaningful long term reform - its like hitting a double, maybe even a triple in baseball.
