Location Location Location.Another Job Application Rejected

Well.. Just opened up the third email in as many months with the same ole same ole line..... Dear Sirs...While your credential and qualifications are impressive we are currently seeking candidates from the following zip codes....Thank you...blah blah


What is pissing me off is the company post the position on a national job hunters website with no indication in the verbage of the post stating "ONLY LOCAL APPLICANTS FROM THE FOLLOWING ZIP CODES APPLY"


For me this is three of these kinds of emails I have received in the past six months.....sad that they cant be clear on who and where they are seeking applicants from. I do not have anyway of setting up a local address to get around this....I am trying to figure out how to address this matter to the proper outlet..

1. I got rejected for a job on a similar basis

and it was from the company I was already working for! They were closing one of our NY offices, so I applied for a job in PA, where they were moving jobs to. I assured them that I would live in the area where I worked, and see my lady on the weekends. She was the reason I moved to NY in the first place, so that was a valid point to make.

I got a response of "we know how that turns out" as part of my rejection. I could have sued for discrimination based on marital status, but that's only recognized in NY and NJ, but not in PA!

Moral of the story: You have to masquerade that you practically live next door, or have zero ties to the place where you currently live.

2. Even if you do that

that is, "masquerade that you practically live next door, or have zero ties to the place where you currently live", they'll just find another bullshit reason to reject your application, if all they really want is applications but they already have someone lined up to fill the position.

4. You're right about that

At least when my company posts a job (internally, at first) they often put the words "Strong Candidate Identified" in the description. It lets us know not to even get a flicker of hope up.

3. Because the pay they offer is so crappy.. they know people can't afford to commute..

Minimum wage job + 50 mile communte + $3 Gas = Work for free
