Half the reason we're in an economic crisis and a supposed "budget shortfall" now is that our Democratic leaders have let themselves be forced to commit to keeping a Cold War-sized war machine, despite the fact that we no longer have any real need for a military or a defense budget of this size.
Are our leaders EVER going to get it that Joe McCarthy, Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan are dead, and that we don't HAVE to be afraid of them slandering us anymore?
Are they ever going to get it that the right-wing pressure to keep war spending(we should just call it "death spending")high is to make it impossible for us to carry out domestic programs of any real value or effectiveness?
We have to remove the albatross of war spending from our party's neck. Otherwise, that neck will be snapped. But how the hell do we do it?
How do we get it through to our Democratic leaders that they don't have to be terrified of the idea of breaking with war as the solution to all our problems?
