The California man who calmly opened fire on two police officers at an entrance to the Pentagon Thursday appears to have acted alone and was not connected to any terrorist plot, Pentagon police chief Richard S. Keevill said.

The shooter, identified as 36-year-old John Patrick Bedell, was dressed in a business suit and carried two semiautomatic weapons and "many magazines" of ammunition, Keevill said. "He walked very directly to the officers and engaged," Keevill said.

Police are looking at possible anti-government Internet postings by Bedell, Keevill said, and still trying to establish his motive for the attack at a doorway to the nation's defense headquarters -- one of the busiest, most prominent and closely guarded buildings in the Washington area.

"There are no indications at this point that there are any international or domestic connections to this incident at all," Keevill said. "At this time it appears to be a single individual that had issues."

Through podcasts and a Wikipedia page, a man identified online as JPatrickBedell cast the government as a criminal force destroying personal liberties.

"This seizure of the United States government by an international criminal conspiracy is a long-established reality," the man said in a podcast in November 2006, which also was published as text online.

Such an organization, the man said, "would use its powers to convert military, intelligence, and law enforcement bureacracies (sic) into instruments for political control and the domination and subjection of society, while discrediting, destroying, and murdering honest individuals within those services that work to root out corruption and faithfully serve their fellow citizens."

Seems he was in to the 9-11 Truther movement. A lot on the left are in this movement including a forum here on DU. And many here including myself have been in the LIHOP or MIHOP camps to some extent at some times.

So we can't be sure at this point if this guy was a Tea Bagger, Nutty Libertarian, or the rare lefty that decides to use a gun or none of the above.
