Thanks for Investigating Those Outrageous Rumors About the US Executing Handcuffed Children
At the first of the year, a story hit the news about US-led troops executing 8 handcuffed kids in Afghanistan. I blogged about it. The outrage was tremendous. How dare I comment on such atrocious reporting? Didn't I know the president was now a Democrat and wars were tools of peace? Surely I was just making it all up.

So, I blogged again, citing all the sources of information. Of course, I couldn't know what happened, but the grounds for an investigation were overwhelming. Now Dave Lindorff reports on his efforts to investigate further. And you know how many of those outraged liberals who wanted to better verify the facts have lifted their little finger to look into the matter at all? How many investigations have been conducted or reports produced? How many individuals subpoenaed or prosecuted?

The answer is a measure of what's left of our national decency: ZERO.

2. Rec.
Now someone will show up to tell us how the enemy is training children to kill our soldiers. I've seen this movie. And the propaganda has not changed since the last time we were in a conflict of this nature.

8. Actually it was the end of last year
The story was thoroughly covered by every major news outlet, all over the world. Buck passing has followed. NATO claimed responsibility when they believed they had captured insurgents. When the detailes emerged, they suddenly claimed they weren't present. Same goes with Afghans involved in the operation. The investigation continues.

12. HERE DAVID..CHECK IT OUT!! someone needs to get this info to those teachers!!
Pt. 1 explained how a new grant requirement from Arne Duncan precipitated the firings at Central Falls High School.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

Pt. 2 laid out the timeline, from the rules change to the pink-slipping.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

And here you can learn more about the students & teachers of Central Falls High, including the interesting fact that CFHS had recently received an excellent state evaluation (due to two years of gains on state tests & other improvements):

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

Not to mention Obama's praise for a school with scores & progress WORSE than Central Falls:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

But it was Gates-funded.

I'm sure the fact that Gates was one of Obama's big campaign backers has nothing to do with anything.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Still more things you may not know about Central Falls, Pt 4

14. Just heard on Democracy Now that...
one in three casualties of the war in Afghanistan is a noncombatant.

Obama, in just over a year, has broken Bush's record for attacks with unmanned drones.

We are, as a nation and a people, not what we pretend to be.

21. K&R...I guess it doesn't matter anymore now that we have a Dem President
what the hell we do in our wars. I think the media has gotten worse than under Bush...but then his policies finished it off, so we have Murdoch and Carlos Slim along with Moon plus GE who will still have an interest in NBC Universal when Comcast takes control.

We don't fund Liberal reporting Enterprises. Couldn't even keep Air America going.

22. Yes - I remember it well - I posted pictures of the dead
and was soon over whelmed with head shot and lung blood experts who claimed the pictures proved they were justifiably killed as "enemy combatants".

So many dead, estimates between the two wars are at a million or so. It is sickening how many democrats cheerlead this never ending war.

25. Our national decency went out the window the day multitudes supported/didn't oppose
preventive wars of aggression and torture, not only international crimes, but crimes under our own laws. The hysteria by so many over health care reform forever ratifies the lack of national decency. :P

33. There is a point finally reached after one horror mounted on
another where a person or a people become so numb, so despairing, they can no longer summon up the strength or even interest to act. That is where I am, and I would bet many people here are there too. What the Democrats need to is form our own tea parties. We could do a much better job. And as long as we kept the DLCer's out, we might be effective. And Obama? Discretion is the better part of valor. I just hope that when the least of us are ushered into the camps pending disposition, a group of progressive comes together and begins to fight in a way more universally understood by all. In the absence of that, it's over.
