4. I've lived in CT, RI, VA, SC, FL, MD...it's always been mandated. nt

5. In TN they only required liability but it was never checked upon unless you had an accident until

a few years ago, now they automatically check for it whenever they pull you over for anything; speeding, running a stop sign etc.

Many people were driving without it before, I suspect many still do because of economical reasons.

6. No, and my premiums went up after they went to "no fault"

I've never had so much as a speeding ticket because I've always driven like an old lady. No points. Ever.

And while I'm kvetching, may I add that in every state that deregulated electric companies my bill went sky-high within a year. Mandate this, deregulate that, screw me. Have a great day y'all! :hi:

I have been driving since 1969 and have always had to have the minimum of liability coverage on my vehicles in the states where I've lived. I have no experience of having lived in a state where there wasn't some type of a mandate. That said, due to the greater ability to monitor/track registrations and insurance compliance with the use of computers, I think that people are more mindful to keep coverage. In my state, if your insurance is canceled (or you cancel your insurance), you get a letter from the MVA warning you to immediately turn in your license plates or prove that you have insurance. There are significant fines if you are caught driving without at least the state minimum of insurance.

10. When I lived in Wisconsin (no mandate) my premiums were lower

than they were once I moved to Illinois (mandate)

Although I think my dad said something about Wisconsin changing their laws this year, so I'm sure they're getting screwed now as well.

11. How about when they deruglated Cable TV.. I was going to get 157 channels for the same price

..I ended up with 3 Shopping Channels, 12 Jeebus Send-Me-Your-Money Bible Channels and Faux news.
