Thank you, Tim Robbins: "Is impeachment STILL off the table?"
Edited on Tue Jan-30-07 01:19 AM by sfexpat2000
I'm probably too tired to be posting right now. But it is being suggested that the rally on Saturday skirted the topic of impeachment. Not so.

"But we can fire him.." -- Mr. Conyers

It has been insinuated that the speakers at the rally last Saturday avoided the topic of impeachment. And that's simply not true.

In fact, every single rep that spoke addressed impeachment. Mr. Conyers, Maxine Waters, Lynne Woolsey. "Not is it only within our power to stop Bush, it is our OBLIGATION to stop Bush." -- Mr. Conyers.

All the "Hollywood" speakers -- you know, those people who have been demonized by the wingnuts for no reason except that they have access to media. They also have First Amendment rights last time I checked.

Serviceman, members of military families, whistleblowers. "In the 50 minutes of rambling George Bush (in the SOTU) did not mention the word "veteran:" -- Garret Reppenhagan.

Tim Robbins, to my mind, put it best when he asked, "Is impeachment STILL off the table?"

And while I admit to answering his question in full voice, so did everyone around me. So did everyone around me.

What will it take. Casey.

What will it take. Lt. Watada

"Stand up and tell them, this is our country." -- Bob Watada, father of a political prisonor, of a citizen and a member of our armed forces.

Someone tell me that Sean Penn didn't need to take out a boat and go fishing for the drowning citizens of NOLA. Because Brownie was doing a heck of a job?

Impeachment was on everyone's mind and it was said over and over and over. And God help the Republican Party if they allow this situation to come to that.

I don't want to hear bs about saving the country from impeachment.

What can impeachment do to us that George W. Bush hasn't done to us or isn't planning to do to us.

There is 1 doctor for every 500 veterans who need care.

IS IMPEACHMENT STILL OFF THE TABLE?

Thank you, Tim. This is OUR country.

2. Thank you Beth
This was beautiful. It's not off the table. I feel that we are building to this crescendo, but I'm not afraid. I have hope.

I saw Tim Robbins in his play Embedded. I went y myself to get a good seat. Front row, house left. He stood, TALL, inches away from me forr over 2 ours. I could touch him, but because, you know, I'm not crazy, I didn't. :P He got it all from the beginning and was one of the brave few speaking out from the start. Love him.

4. If anyone thinks I'm exaggerating -- which I do sometimes
- shame on me -- to make a point -- go to the DemocracyNow! website and listen to the audio. Order up the video. Tim was surprised that his thought was so readily taken up.

The American people know the Decider is a cheap crook. And they want to get rid of him.

Go see for yourselves. Enjoy. :)

9. Practically every other sign mentioned impeachment
I saw several going through the crowd taking pix of impeachment signs. I've never seen so many at a march before.

I would like Pelosi to put her finger in the air or her ear to the train tracks and realize that it is time to put it back on the table.

11. Nancy's job is very tricky right now, isn't it. We have
a capable and shrewd person as Speaker. I hope the Democrats stand behind her in the coming days because she will be faced with this issue. We will press it. And she will have to make some really tough decision.

I trust Nancy.

8. I as a citizen require more than statements,
lest I take it for political posturing. In my mind, my country no longer exists. It has been replaced by a cheap and dangerous rightwing substitute. In my mind, I dream it can come back. My dream can only be fulfilled through impeachment and/or restoration of the constitutional protections and checks and balances we had.

13. I watched from home
and another great part of Tim's speech was his reciting the ten commandments and how Mad king Boy George has broken the most fundamental ones.

You know the ones about killing, stealing, false witnesses, I must try to find a copy of his speech, because I have been saying this for quite some time now.
If I can't find a copy I'll just have to transcribe from the recording from Saturday.

And I too am tried of the impeachment would be "bad" for the country. No A**wipes it was "bad" for the country when the Repubs used their powers to impeach a president over a blowjob. The repubs are the ones who abused the system of our constitution to pursue their over obsessed with Clinton's cock.
(Case in point: Rep. John Mica R-FL was on PI before it was canceled. On this show Clinton's BJ was mentioned and Mica started saying how "whenever someone mentions Clinton's cock he can't get the image out of his head." I'm not making this up, he said it and my hubby and I just broke out laughing;eyes:.)

So, now we have a serious situation on our hands but because the repubs trivialized the process of impeachment it is no longer an important tool in our arsenal to get rid of dictators.

I think it is "BAD" for the country NOT to impeach....

16. The Chicken Littles on the hill tip toe around it. . .
Edited on Tue Jan-30-07 01:13 PM by pat_k
. . .The chattering class is determined to suppress any talk of impeachment. If Members of Congress and other opinion leaders don't drop the euphemisms, accuse Bush and Cheney in stark terms, and demand immediate impeachment, they'll be ignored and written off.

Half-truths and tip toeing around are almost more repugnant that outright denial. When someone tip toes around they show us that they KNOW the truth, but just don't have the courage to speak it clearly.

Sorry Conyers. the ambiguity of "fire them" doesn't cut it. Whatever you intended, it's not a call for your colleagues to impeach; it's a call for us to vote them out. You have my highest regard for all you have done, for the courageous stands you have taken in the past, but your refusal to clearly accuse/impeach Bush and Cheney demands condemnation.

18. I think Mr. Conyers is working closely with the Speaker.
And, even though I want Junior impeached YESTERDAY, that's a good sign that the Dems are working as a team.

At some point soon, there will be some hard decisions to make.

Let's help them out and make their process a little easier.

. . .I'm all for it!

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=3086616&mesg_id=3086616">Lobbying for Impeachment: Take along a Big "Clue Stick" !

We need a champion. Pelosi has made herself an anti-champion with her "off the table" edict. If she doesn't wake up, or get out of the way soon -- say by President's Day -- it's time to put down the clue sticks and take out the big guns.

A big gun like the threat of a primary challenger with clout and dough.

Someone demanding impeachment NOW.

Someone with MONEY.

Shouldn't be too hard to find in affluent SF.

In a district that passed Proposition J (impeach Bush and Cheney) by 60%, Pelosi's refusal to fight for impeachment is a VERY risky game. We need to make it clear just how risky.

If she won't impeach Bush and Cheney to defend the Constitution, maybe she'll do it to defend her political future.
