City Considering Outsourcing 911 Calls
Maryville may save up to $250,000 by having dispatchers from another municipality take over answering 911 calls, but the union representing those workers is pushing back.

Village officials are considering outsourcing police, fire and emergency calls to Glen Carbon dispatchers. Under the arrangement, Glen Carbon telecommunication would field 911 calls from Maryville and relay information to Maryville police and fire crews.

Maryville would pay Glen Carbon a fee for the service, although that amount hasn't been determined. The proposal requires various approvals.

5. "Welcome to 911 ... your call is important to us and may be monitored for
training purposes ... how may I help you?"

...

"While you are waiting for the ambulance to arrive, how about those insert 'local' sports team reference ?"

3. Absolutely insane isn't it?
All we need to throw into the mix of an emergency is a language barrier. It seems our gov't could not have screwed us better if they'd had a manual "How To Screw Up America".
