Obama's health care pitch to Democrats: Trust me
WASHINGTON — Here's what President Barack Obama is telling House Democrats in private pitches about health care legislation: He'll persuade Congress to pass it even if he has to ask deeply distrustful lawmakers to trust him on a promise the White House doesn't have the power to keep.

In fact, Obama can even joke that the political battle has contributed to the recent rise in his cholesterol.

Democratic Rep. Ron Kind of Wisconsin was one of several Democrats who met with Obama at the White House last week. Kind says Obama made the case that a lot of hard work has been spent on health care over the past year and that now is the time for action

7. Here's Keith Olbermann on this writer in the past (VIDEO)
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/29/olbermann-rips-ap-reporte_n_122290.html

And another opinion on the same 2008 piece: http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/attytood/Charles_Babingtons_big_hack_attack.html

It seems that Mr. Babington has offered less-than-quality "reporting" before. ;)

8. A Fair And Balanced Hack
He writes bad, substance free, unnamed-source opinion pieces about both parties.

9. 'Babington's story comes as the AP's Washington bureau is trying to be more opinionated and "edgy" '
under its new leader Ron Fournier, who once told Karl Rove (yes, that Karl Rove) to "keep up the fight."

Well, there you have it. :/

11. The Hand of Fournier
Thanks for pointing it out. Whenever I read a crappy AP Opinion Piece masquerading as fact he is usually the editor.

5. If you have to ask people to trust you,
that means you have already lost your credibility.

10. Funny he has to sit the liberals down and tell them to
take it or the liberal agenda would be threatened. He told the group of progressive Congresscritters that he needed this bill to ensure a strong Presidency.

Notice the choice he made. He didn't sit the dozen conservadem Senators down and tell them we needed the Public Option. He didn't tell them to suck it up and support him. Time and again, he chooses to pressure the liberals and give to the conservatives.

12. Politicians saying "trust me" is like guys in the alley selling watches guaranteeing it's a Rolex.
I "trust" politicians to do, say, promise, anything to get elected/re-elected. Beyond that...not much.

Obama has squandered Americas trust. He's now just a lame duck waiting
for duck season to begin. November, Right ?

at some point in the future after the bill is passed.

17. He could save himself a lot of heartache by
going to Dems and telling them 'we are going to fight for a PO and we are going to use reconciliation to get it passed'. That would relieve them of the fear of voting against the interests of their constituencies and how to explain their doing so coming up to an election. Not to mention the fact that it is the right thing to do.

Why he doesn't take the easy way out, but is trying to persuade progressives to vote against their consciences, as Kucinich said so well, is a question someone needs to aske him.
