Anti-gay group wants killer whale stoned to death
An anti-gay religious group is calling for a killer whale which drowned its trainer to be stoned to death.

According to the American Family Association, the Bible says that captive killer whale Tillikum should have been put to death in 1991 after the first time he killed a trainer.

The whale killed 40-year-old trainer Dawn Brancheau last week in front of crowds at SeaWorld Orlando. He dragged the experienced trainer into the water by her ponytail.

Tillikum, known as Tilly, has been involved in the deaths of two other people in the last 20 years. He and two female orcas killed another female trainer in 1991, while the dead body of a man was found on his back in 1999. The man was thought to have died from hypothermia, although Tilly had bitten him and torn off his shorts.

Bryan Fischer, from the American Family Association, wrote on the organisation’s website: “What about the term ‘killer whale’ do SeaWorld officials not understand?

“If the counsel of the Judeo-Christian tradition had been followed, Tillikum would have been put out of everyone’s misery back in 1991 and would not have had the opportunity to claim two more human lives.”

Mr Fischer cited passages from Exodus, which counsel that if a man’s ox kills someone, it should be stoned to death. The text says that if the ox is not killed and goes on to claim another life, both it and its owner should be stoned to death.

2. Newsflash, whistledick!
We are not living under a Levitical theocracy, so toddle off and worship your bronze-age sky deity - quietly - out of earshot from the rest of our multicultural society.

3. Didn't they read this part of The Bible:
For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.

--------------

If man has no preeminence above a beast, it is hard to see how it is ok to capture them and train them to perform tricks for our amusement. Wouldn't it make more sense to argue that God, holding us as equals as the above verse seems to convey, would indeed prefer for those animals to be set free?

4. Um, Tillikum was doing his job...
He's not a poodle or a mouse, HE'S A KILLER WHALE! He shouldn't be in captivity. He should be free to swim in the ocean.

7. the holy book also says that animal (blood) sacrifices are ok
and I got a problem with that, killing innocent animals to appease some mythical deity in the sky.

For the record, Tilly is a dolphin not actually a "killer whale".

Also, orcas are worshiped as a sacred animal by a number of North American Indian tribes, such as the Tlingit, Nootka and Haida tribes who consider the orca as an animal ancestral spirit. Their ancient way of life supercedes anything that a silly religion like Christianity which appeared a mere 2000 years ago.
