Bill would deny tax credit for movies with gay characters.
TALLAHASSEE (AP) - Movie and TV productions with gay characters could be ineligible for a tax credit being considered in the state House.Current state law grants tax credits on productions considered "family friendly" — with no smoking, sex, nudity or profane language. The proposal by Republican Rep. Stephen Precourt of Orlando would increase the credit and expand the field of disqualified productions as those that include any "exhibit or implied act" of nontraditional family values and gratuitous violence. Precourt says he's not targeting the gay community but that shows with gay characters would not be something he'd want "to invest public dollars in. "Florida Together director Ted Howard says "instituting 1950s-style movie censorship does nothing to support real-life families."

On behalf of sane (yes there are some) Floridians, I apologize.

Ugh.

Movie and TV productions
get tax credits? Somewhere along the line I got the idea that this was one business that didn't get tax breaks.

5. o noez
there's competition amongst cities and states as to who can sweeten the pot the most - as usual for modern north america, a race to abase.

9. Learn something new everyday!
I'm sure there are plenty of states other than Florida, that productions can go to. Glad that the Florida economy is doing so well that they don't need the motion picture/tv industry working there.

This guy sounds like a real douche. He must have stayed up way past his bedtime to come up with this piece of homophobic legislation.

10. The state started giving the tax breaks to encourage movie studios to bring the jobs here
Several movies in the last few years have been filmed here because of it. Even a few in my own hometown.

16. Probably depends on the location
They're usually treated pretty generously in that regard in Canada, at least in my neck of the woods.

3. Hollywood can and will remove all film production from Florida
In fact, they should suspend all current productions until the bill is withdrawn. Republicans respond to money.

7. Movie industry to Florida: "Buh-bye!"
Hollywood is a very gay-friendly industry. Including decision-makers.

If Florida does this, they'll never see another movie made at a Florida locale.

14. Sounds like a plan to me..
An horrific plan, but still a plan. A really terrible idea.

This state is one screwed up piece of work. Whatever happened to the survival of the fittest? How come so many stupid people thrive and multiply? Idiots...all of them.

Need a swamp? Louisiana can double for the Everglades

Los Angeles can double for Miami and thewre are plenty of Orange groves in California.

And Savannah, GA can sub for St Augustine or any other old Spanish city.

Beyond that is there any other location type i have forgotten?

BTW - The last movie i even remember seeing that was filmed in Florida was The Birdcage and that could have been adapted to ANY city in the world with even the slightest gay population (like Austin, Atlanta or Madison WI).
Have there been any others? Maybe the Miami Vice remake, but no one saw that turd.
