West Branch -- Rep. Bart Stupak, who is playing a key role in the health care debate, is inviting feedback on the issue from his northern Michigan constituents.

Stupak is hosting a town hall meeting today in Tawas City, following appearances at high schools and a senior center in the area.

The Menominee Democrat is the unofficial leader of about a dozen U.S. House members threatening to withhold support for health care legislation because they believe it would allow federal funding of abortions.

The White House and most of those who support the measure insist that is not true.

A close vote is expected, and opposition from Stupak and his allies could doom the bill.
