Please don't think that your emails are in vain. Even though most of them are, I can tell you a few of mine that at least seemed to make a difference:
1. Arguing with Dennis Praeger over one of his "spots" where he bragged about knowing that if "you love your daughters enough they will not have eating disorders." I wrote to him in disagreement, and argued intelligently against him, and he wrote back and said he agreed, was sorry, and removed the advertisement/blurb where he said what he said.
2. I know this is lame, but I got angry at the new "Smokey The Bear" ads, because they were so sarcastic rather than informative or appealing to younger people, and they cancelled that ad campaign. Now, I am sure I was not alone in contacting them, but that is pretty weird, to get upset about Smokey The Bear ads because they are sarcastic, and have them changed.
3. Meg Whitman's adverts on a SoCal radio station. She was literally advertising five to seven times an hour on the feed from this prominent Southern California All News station, and when I complained, they dropped her ads, which stunned me. I know how much money she has, and she can afford to run ads on the moon. But they stopped running these horrific ads.
Thankfully, I am beginning to think what we say does have an impact.
Thanks for reading this.
