Signs point to active tornado season

Local meteorologists are anticipating a potentially active tornado season in Kansas this spring.

"I'm quite concerned this could be a very busy tornado season," said Mike Smith, president of WeatherData Inc., a Wichita subsidiary of AccuWeather.

There are two reasons for those concerns, he said: across the United States it has been wetter than it has been since the Palmer Drought Index was developed more than 40 years ago, and a high pressure dome over British Columbia is redirecting the jet stream right through Tornado Alley.

At least for the next few weeks as the Gulf has been chilled by a rare long cool winter. This shuts down the warmest moisture laden air to sweep north and interact as violently as peak years.

3. for me at the moment snow is still the concern, im so over it

luckily with the warm weather we have been having im finally seeing signs of it abating, only a foot or so left to melt, then i can finally get my truck to my house, its only been what 4 months or so since that happened... lol

4. Hold onto your hats

Another big storm is heading through NM tonight and tomorrow and anything that produces much here gets a lot worse when it hops over the Rockies and hits all that humid air farther east. Late tomorrow and Thursday might be active days in Tornado Alley.

Damned storms are stacked up one after another this year. It's been a crummy, grey winter in the southern Rockies.

We heard this as well. We live out in the country South of Topeka. I have begun spring storm preparations and tomorrow looks to be our first real banger. Went to a Storm Spotter training class since we are kind of on our own at times. I love the big building super cells and the long, horizon to horizon shelf clouds. Tornadoes are sadly part of it.

Now I just have to figure out how to get the goats inside the basement (they are little and like our doggies) and I need to make goat diapers :-).

See you on the other side of springtime demtenjeep! This rain is getting tedious but my husband and I, as we wade through the very deeply muddy "dry lot", just keep telling ourselves that at least it is not snow. I have not seen a winter like this since I was a kid!

I know you hate it and I am sorry because there certainly is no stopping it. I may love the storms but after cutting it way way too close a couple of years ago and almost getting caught with a tornado right over us as we watched it coming I have a little more fear than I did before. Ever since the big 66 storm I have loved them but that was pretty scary.
