Another Prius speeds out of control, N.Y. police say

PURCHASE — A woman smashed into a stone wall this morning because of a stuck accelerator on a Toyota Prius, Harrison police said.

The 56-year-old driver suffered non-life threatening injuries, acting Chief Anthony Marraccini said.

The woman was pulling out of the driveway at 3700 Purchase St. facing forward when the accelerator stuck, police said.

The car "shot" across the street smashing into a stone wall, Marraccini said.

7. This Is Sad

Toyota is very unfortunate that these problems are pervasive in their entire line up. I said in the beginning it is a software problem and I still believe that. The really scary thing is every car we drive is software controlled. What is the next company to experience these kinds of problems. We all need to learn the procedure to safely disable our cars if they develop a mind of their own.

8. I wouldn't call it sad

I feel for the workers of Toyota in the fact that this company will probably suffer the fate of most other companies and will start laying off people.

But no pity for Toyota, they have deceived the consumers and safety agencies for years and they are arrogant about the fact that a problem exists and refuse to own up to a poor design.

They preyed on the American Auto Manufactures for years with claims of quality superiority. We are now learning that it was all fake.

They even sold the Toyota Way of doing business to companies who perceived them as being superior at running manufacturing operations.

10. I Meant The Workers

when I said it was sad for Toyota. I'll have to be more accurate in the future. If I thought it was sad for a Corporation I would be like the SC thinking the Corp. is a human. LOL, sorry had to say that. Unfortunately, way too many companies take the same approach. In law school I learned that Ford made the decision to leave a three dollar part off of the Pinto that would prevent the explosions in a rear in collision because it would be cheaper to pay the law suits in the future. At the time this was a legal line of reasoning and violated nothing but human ethics. Not sure what the legal stance is on that sort of thing now. My parents actually bought me a Pinto when I first got my license and I bet anything they would have paid $3.00 more not to have me fried in a crash.

Every time I think of how things are done in the world I am amazed. We drive and fly in machines made of millions of parts, each built by the lowest bidder. I realize the necessity of keeping cost down but maybe add something like better spec and quality control. If it raised the per unit cost $500 so be it.
