Officer Who Got 149 MPH Ticket Gets Job Back

GAHANNA, Ohio — A police officer who was fired after he was caught riding his motorcycle nearly 150 mph along Interstate 70 will get his job back, 10TV News reported on Wednesday.

An arbitrator ruled that the city of Gahanna did not have just cause to fire Officer Christopher Thomas for a speeding infraction.

Gahanna police said Thomas will still serve a 90-day suspension without pay before he will return to duty.

Thomas was pulled over and ticketed in July along I-70 in Licking County after a state trooper clocked his motorcycle speed at 149 mph, 10TV News reported.

Don't understand why a traffic ticket, even a reckeless driving ticket, is grounds for being fired.

Besides, the guy is cop, not a worker in a pizza joint.

If a cop has that little regard for safety, and for the law, could not one (as his department did) reasonably conclude that he should not be a cop?

5. Probably the same thing that was done to him: Give the guy a ticket.

That's probably a $500 ticket.

$75 for speeding, and $5 for every mile above 65 mph.

~150 mph is 85 mph over the limit, or $425. Tack on $75 for speeding and that's $500 total.
