Please Contact your Rep. and Ask Him/Her to cosponsor H.R.4789: the "Medicare You Can Buy Into Act"

Congressman Alan Grayson, D-Fla., recently introduced a bill (H.R. 4789) which would give the option to buy into Medicare to every citizen of the United States. The “Public Option Act,” also known as the “Medicare You Can Buy Into Act,” would open up the Medicare network to anyone who can pay for it.

It only has ten cosponsors right now.

i don't know how it would work for everyone else. maybe a sliding scale?

medicare does not cover everything. you still need to buy a supplemental policy to cover the rest.

No sliding scale, no taxpayer contribution. It would run around $600 per person. Plus the fact that it doesn't cover everything.

I don't know why this guy is sponsoring anything on HCR is beyond me.....

He must be challenged in the primeiries....he struck me as someone with Bipolar disorder who's willing to say anything to get re-elected.

10. Resource Thread on HCTalk - The real public option

Isn't HR 4789 the "real public option"? I couldn't see how past public options (that are gone now), were real public options, because less than 2 % of the people could select it as an option. Isn't HR 4789 the "real public option" which allows everyone the "option" to buy into Medicare. It does age banding which will make the plan less expensive for younger people and more expensive for older people.

Hey, I'm not saying this is perfect - but isn't HR 4789 what we had in mind for a public option?
