I like this concept. I hope it catches on

1. His DNA and birth parts says he's a dude.

He can convince himself and authorities that he's "androgynous", but that is a psychological issue, not a physical fact.

2. last I checked there were 2 sexes, male and female. It has nothing

to do with sexual preference, but only what sex a person is. Even transgender people pick one sex or the other.

that Norrie has chosen to identify with neither? Personally I like it when social conventions are challenged; the old rules are thrown out.

10. Except all the intersex persons out there

who have XXY chromosomes, (or any other number of chromosome mixes) or androgen resistance, or hermaphrodites, and so on. People who would lose an inherent part of themselves should they "pick a gender" or worse, should their parents and doctors pick one for them while they're children.

5. I think it's better to have everyone answer the same RACE rather that this...

In fact, I've seen someone talk at junior colleges in the past purporting that we should all do this. She was rather convincing we should all answer African descent.

8. I respectfully disagree.

Especially in the US, where all sorts of backgrounds and naming traditions co-exist - it's often hard to know how to pronounce a name, let alone know whether it belongs to a male or female.

In the last week alone I have met the following caucazoid Americans - all over 30 years old.

Kareen (A male pronounced the same as Karen)
Seeburn (a male pronounced SEE-burn)
Tilikar (a female pronounced tee-a-KAR)
Amanda (a male who pronounces it al-MOND)
Melanie (a female who pronounces it ma-LANE-ee)
Charlie (a female who's given name is Charlotte but she pronounces this CAR-lee)
