2. Just guessing, but I think it has less to do with subsidies than...

you can't store lettuce, cucumbers, or red peppers all that long. They get all nasty when you freeze them.

You can make a nice salad from pickled beets and beans.

Just look at any grocery store's frozen and canned sections and you could make some nice salads without lettuce. You got okra, brussels sprouts, green beans, spinach, peas, tomatoes, greens, broccoli and on and on.

Some vegetables need not be frozen or canned at all. A squash that is carefully cured can be stored for months. Onions and potatoes can be stored without refrigeration. Then there are all the dried vegetables and fruits, parsley, garlic, chives, fruits, tomatoes....

just turned vegan.

he had quadruple bypass at the age of 44. scared the shit out of him.

he called me, hesitantly, to ask me why I was so thin compared to the rest of my 6 brothers and sisters.

I told him.
He said, well, I want to live to see my son grow up.

this was a month ago. he called me yesterday and he has dropped 15 pounds.

he said he feels like a million bucks.

anyway, the subsidies make it cheaper. they can advertise. the government is owned by these industry lobbyists.

guess thats yet another reason Im a rebel.

Some of the shit they've done make PETA look sane. Like for instance: the City of Irving, TX, imploded Texas Stadium. Kraft paid to sponsor the blast--they named it "Cheddar Explosion" and used it to launch a new simulated food product. (They call it macaroni and cheese, but it's more like "macaroni and yellow shit.") PCRM offered the city $75,000 if they would drop Kraft, instead hanging a banner on the stadium depicting an obese man gorging on cheese with the phrase "Cheese really blows you up" on it. They've also got the "Power Plate" diet on their website--it consists of fruits, grains, vegetables, legumes and a vitamin pill because their diet doesn't contain any, unless you can find something that's fortified with B12. A diet that requires you take vitamin pills is no diet.

The only thing I can say good about them is they have wisely made the choice to NOT put fucking Mercola on their board of directors. Then again, Mercola's dietary rules are at odds with PCRM's--he recommends raw milk and eschews grains, and PCRM is a vegan operation.
